Mike Moustakas is not in the Royals' lineup Sunday.

It's just a day of rest. Cheslor Cuthbert will start in Moustakas' place at third base.

J.D. Martinez (knee) is back in the Tigers' lineup Sunday.

Martinez had to leave Saturday's game after fouling a ball off his left knee. X-rays came back clean, though, and he's feeling well enough to give it a go.

Alfredo Simon's next scheduled start will be pushed back to Saturday due to a lingering groin injury.

Simon first tweaked the groin in his July 25 outing and it nagged at him during his start this past Thursday. He told Tigers manager Brad Ausmus he could pitch through it, but the skipper wants to be careful. "I'm concerned about it," Ausmus said. "And I don't get concerned about many things. Just because he felt good in his bullpen before his last start and then didn't look real good, so we'll give him these extra days. ... Obviously, if we have to adjust, we will."

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus confirmed Saturday that he'll "probably" use Alex Wilson as his closer.

Wilson notched his first career save on Thursday when he recorded the final five outs of the game and it appears that he's Ausmus' top option for the ninth inning following the trade of Joakim Soria. "I'll probably use Wilson at the back end, maybe (Blaine) Hardy at the back end if there are lefties," Ausmus said. "(Neftali) Feliz and (Bruce) Rondon hopefully can stretch through the seventh and eighth somehow." Wilson boasts a 1.79 ERA on the season, although he's struck out just 33 over 55 1/3 innings. He doesn't have typical closer stuff but obviously needs to be owned in all fantasy leagues.

Pablo Sandoval (forearm) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

He hasn't played since being hit on the left forearm by a pitch on Thursday. Sandoval remains day-to-day and should have a shot to return Tuesday after Monday's off day. Travis Shaw is at third base Sunday.

Steve Pearce (oblique) hopes to throw and swing a bat this week.

Pearce to this point has been limited to rest and treatment since straining his left oblique two weeks ago, but he said he was finally pain-free on Saturday. He might need a couple rehab games but doesn't appear too far off from a return if he can avoid a setback.

Zack Godley is expected to move into a relief role soon as a way to conserve his innings.

This is Godley first full season as a starter, and he's already thrown 101 1/3 innings after tossing just 55 1/3 frames as a reliever last year. The 25-year-old is likely due for one more start with the big club before Chase Anderson (triceps) returns later this week. "He could be (a reliever) here, maybe he would go to the bullpen in the minor leagues and then come back up sometime in September," Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. "But we have to be very careful."
Aug 2 - 9:06 AM

Chase Anderson (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment with the Diamondbacks' rookie-level Arizona League team on Sunday.

He's slated to throw four innings or 60 pitches in what could be his lone rehab outing. Out the last two weeks with right triceps inflammation, Anderson is expected to replace Zack Godley in the rotation when he returns.
