Brock Stassi has made the Phillies' Opening Day roster.

This became a foregone conclusion once the Phillies released Chris Coghlan. Stassi had an electric spring, batting .339 across with six round-trippers over 56 Grapefruit League at-bats. Raking in March isn't the same as doing it against big leaguers in April but the 27-year-old has certainly earned a look. It's a nice story, but there's no fantasy value here.
Mar 30 - 4:39 PM

Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI as the Red Sox beat the Nationals 8-1 on Thursday.

Pedroia ends the spring 19-for-39, giving him a cool .487 average. Typically a No. 2 hitter in previous years, he'll occupy the leadoff spot in Boston's order on Opening Day.
Mar 30 - 4:38 PM

Kyle Kendrick moved to 4-0 on the spring by holding the Nationals to one run in four innings Thursday.

He struck out five. Kendrick was reassigned Tuesday, but he could still be up with the Red Sox in very short order if Drew Pomeranz isn't ready to come off the DL on April 9. His sterling spring included a 2.18 ERA and a 31/4 K/BB ratio in 34 innings.
Mar 30 - 4:36 PM

Joe Ross surrendered four runs in five innings Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Ross struck out seven, but he gave up eight hits. Ross's spring concludes with a 3.93 ERA and an 18/5 K/BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings. He's one of our favorite value picks among starting pitchers this year.
Mar 30 - 4:34 PM

Daniel Nava has made the Phillies' Opening Day roster.

Nava was probably a long shot to make the roster when camp opened but solidified his place by mashing to the tune of a .386 average over 44 Grapefruit League at-bats. Despite an impressive spring, the 34-year-old backup offers no fantasy value.
Mar 30 - 4:34 PM

Hector Santiago allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings as the Twins and Rays played to a 6-6 tie Thursday.

Santiago is still building his pitch count after working in long relief (8 2/3 innings in three appearances) for Puerto Rico in the WBC. He'll open up in the Twins' rotation, but he looks like a weak bet in AL-only leagues.
Mar 30 - 4:28 PM

Ryan Pressly gave up four runs without retiring a batter Thursday against the Rays.

Pressley allowed just one run in his first eight innings of the spring, but now he's given up seven runs and walked four batters in his last two appearances. That's not the way he wanted to finish as he tries to establish himself as the No. 2 man in the Minnesota pen.
Mar 30 - 4:26 PM

Steven Souza singled in both of his at-bats Thursday, raising his spring average to .356.

Souza has dealt with a hand blister the last week, but he returned to action yesterday and he's reached base five times in six plate appearances since. His strong second half of the spring should ensure that he's a full-time player initially. He always figured to be a regular, but he's one without a lot of margin for error.
