Wade Miley struggled from the outset Tuesday, allowing seven runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the White Sox.

Miley spotted the White Sox a five-run lead but managed to keep them off the board until giving up two more runs in the sixth. Miley also walked three while striking out five in the poor start. The start was actually a departure from Miley's previous two starts, as he'd allowed just one run over his previous two starts spanning 13 innings. Miley will carry an 8-9 record, 4.65 ERA and 1.42 WHIP into Sunday's contest against the Rays.

Ubaldo Jimenez gave up only two runs in seven innings of work to earn the win on Tuesday against the Braves.

Freddie Freeman gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead when he drilled a Jimenez offering over the fence in left-center for a two-run home run. From there, the right-hander was leak-free, holding the Braves to four hits and three walks overall while striking out three. He was hammered for seven runs in reach of his previous two starts, skyrocketing his ERA. It now sits at a respectable 3.73 with a 1.33 WHIP and a 108/38 K/BB ratio over 113 1/3 innings. Jimenez will play host to the Tigers in his next start.

Jeff Samardzija allowed four runs over eight innings in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox.

Samardzija cruised through most of the first eight innings, allowing only two runs, but he stumbled trying to close out the game in the ninth. The right-hander allowed a run and another inherited runner scored after he left, depriving him of a quality start and marring his overall line on the night. Samardzija gave up seven hits and a walk in the game, striking out three in what could be his final start with the White Sox. If he's still in a Sox uniform come Sunday, Samardzija will take on the Yankees.

Julio Teheran served up five runs in four innings en route to a loss on Tuesday versus the Orioles.

Chris Davis did all of the damage, unloading for a three-run home run in the first inning and a two-run shot in the second. The right-hander allowed five hits and walked four while striking out four in the abbreviated outing. Though Teheran had pitched much better in July, his numbers are still quite poor as he stands with a 4.71 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and a 106/49 K/BB ratio over 124 1/3 innings. He'll attempt to rebound when he makes a road start against the Phillies next.

Chris Davis crushed a pair of home runs to drive in five runs, helping the Orioles take down the Braves on Tuesday.

The O's fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Davis quickly responded with a three-run home run in the bottom half. He added a two-run shot in the second, with both blasts coming against Julio Teheran -- his only hits in four at-bats on the night. Davis is swinging a hot stick as he's homered five times in his last seven games, giving him 24 on the season with 65 RBI and a .243/.325/.497 line.

Cody Asche went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and a run scored, helping the Phillies defeat the Blue Jays 3-2 on Tuesday.

Asche tied the game at two apiece in the fifth inning when he hit a two-run double to right-center against Felix Doubront. He'd later score the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run on Andres Blanco's double. The third baseman is on a five-game hitting streak, but has been well below average for a corner outfielder this season, batting .251/.284/.373 with five home runs and 19 RBI.
Jul 28 - 10:06 PM

Devon Travis hit a leadoff home run in a 1-for-2 effort before leaving Tuesday's loss to the Phillies with a left shoulder injury.

Travis was batting leadoff following the departure of shortstop Jose Reyes in the Troy Tulowitzki trade. He greeted Adam Morgan rudely with a home run to lead off the game. He struck out to end the second inning before leaving the game with a left shoulder injury, likely a reaggravation of the issue which forced him to the disabled list for five weeks earlier this season. Travis has otherwise had a great season, batting .304/.361/.498 with eight home runs and 35 RBI.
Jul 28 - 10:03 PM

Rays activated SS Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list.

Cabrera missed just one day more than the minimum with a strained right hamstring. He's hitting .223/.275/.352 for the Rays this season.
