Jose Abreu went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.

Abreu took a Jon Lester offering for a long solo ride to left in the fourth inning, launching it an estimated 448 feet. He also socked a solo homer in the ninth that drew the White Sox to within 6-3, but there would no further late dramatics from his club. Prior to his big evening on Thursday, Abreu had not homered since July 4. For the season as a whole, the slugger is working to a .297/.352/.521 triple-slash with 18 homers and 63 RBI across 98 games played.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Rangers have informed teams that they're looking to move Yu Darvish before Monday's trade deadline.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported earlier tonight that the Rangers were still deciding whether or not to deal Darvish. Apparently that decision has now been made and the Rangers are actively shopping the ace right-hander. With Clayton Kershaw (back) facing a lengthy absence, the Dodgers are sure to add an arm at the deadline and Darvish may very well be their preferred target. The Cubs, who recently took over first in the NL Central, have also checked in on Darvish. We could be looking at an all-out fire sale in Texas with relievers Jeremy Jeffress and Keone Kela also drawing trade interest.

Willy Garcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.

Garcia opened the game's scoring with a solo home run in the third inning off Jon Lester, this after he had just been recalled from Triple-A earlier in the day. In 36 games this season, the 24-year-old outfielder is slashing .261/.316/.455 with two homers and 11 RBI.

Jon Lester was sharp in Thursday's win over the White Sox, surrendering just two runs on four hits over seven innings.

Lester tallied a modest four strikeouts while walking one over his seven innings of work. He had a slight problem keeping the ball in the park -- Willy Garcia and Jose Abreu both connected for solo dingers off the southpaw -- but otherwise had the game on lockdown throughout. Lester will carry a 3.88 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 130/39 K/BB ratio (130 innings) into a home showdown with the Diamondbacks next time he takes to the mound.
Jul 27 - 10:52 PM

Mike Pelfrey surrendered five runs on six hits over five-plus innings in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.

Pelfrey struck out three and walked two in the outing. He kept the Cubs off the scoreboard until the fourth inning, when he coughed up a solo home run to Anthony Rizzo and a two-run shot to Kyle Schwarber. In 19 appearances (17 starts) this season, the veteran right-hander has pitched to an unpalatable 4.73 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Up next on the docket, a home start against the Blue Jays.

Derek Dietrich went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a win over the Reds on Thursday.

Dietrich was the man on the spot in this one, hitting a solo homer in the fourth inning to open the scoring before a bases-loaded walk plated a run in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh brought in another run. The homer was Dietrich's fifth of the year. The good night came on the heels of a five-RBI game the night before. Good games have been scarce for the 28-year-old, who's hitting just .237/.312/.376 on the year.
Jul 27 - 10:44 PM

Robert Stephenson walked seven while allowing three runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss to the Marlins on Thursday.

Stephenson didn't get punished for his mistakes, with the Marlins pushing across just three runs, but the wildness served to abbreviate the right-hander's night at the very least. He's now been relatively ineffective in both starts since being recalled earlier this month. Stephenson owns a 7.86 ERA in 34 1/3 innings this year heading into Wednesday's start against the Pirates.
Jul 27 - 10:40 PM

Dee Gordon went 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's win over the Reds.

Gordon wasn't afraid to run on this night, walking to lead off the first inning before getting caught stealing. Undeterred, Gordon then singled to lead off the third inning and stole his 37th base before being stranded at second. He tried a third time to run in the sixth inning but was again nailed by Red catcher Tucker Barnhart. The 29-year-old's 37 swipes are second-most in the National League behind Billy Hamilton's, and he's also on a bit of a tear at the plate of late, with four multi-hit games during a seven-game hitting streak. The good stretch has his line up to .294/.338/.358 overall.
