Orioles recalled RHP Logan Verrett from Triple-A Norfolk.
Verrett posted a 6.57 ERA over his first seven relief appearances at Norfolk this season, but that didn't deter the O's from summoning him for bullpen help. He'll be used as a long man.
Orioles recalled LHP Richard Bleier from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bleier allowed one earned run and had an 11/0 K/BB ratio over nine frames at Norfolk to earn a promotion. He'll work in middle relief.
Avisail Garcia admitted to playing through some tightness in his upper left leg/groin area on Saturday.
The cold weather in Detroit didn't help, but Garcia made it through the full game. The outfielder said he would be treated with stretching and ice and it doesn't sound like anything that will force him to miss any time.
James Shields (lat) made about 40 light throws on Saturday and said he "felt good."
It's unclear what the next step is for Shields at this point or if he'll require a rehab assignment before rejoining the White Sox' rotation. This is the first time in his 12-year career that Shields has been on the disabled list.
There is no plan yet for Pablo Sandoval (knee) to resume baseball activities.
Sandoval remains limited to range of motion and strengthening exercises as he works his way back from a right knee sprain. There's no timetable for his return.
David Price (elbow) is on track for another simulated game on Thursday.
Price faced hitters in a sim game Saturday and "when he walked off he said he felt good," according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. Assuming he still feels good Sunday, Price will throw a light bullpen session Monday before another simulated game Thursday.
Jake Barrett (shoulder) allowed a hit but struck out the side in a scoreless inning in his first rehab appearance with High-A Visalia on Saturday.
Barrett is working his way back from a shoulder injury that wiped out his spring training. The fact that he missed all of spring suggests that he'd probably need a good number of rehab appearances before being activated, but he certainly didn't look rusty Saturday. Barrett's progress is worth noting given Fernando Rodney's struggles, as he probably would've been next in line for saves if he were healthy. He could eventually work his way into the mix.
Angels designated LHP Greg Mahle for assignment.
The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Jose Valdez. Mahle hasn't pitched well since the beginning of last season either in the majors or minors.
