Aaron Hicks is in the lineup and playing right field for Wednesday's contest against the Orioles.

Hicks is hitting seventh, while Carlos Beltran earns himself a half-day in the DH slot. With Alex Rodriguez hitting the disabled list due to a bum hamstring, it would not be a surprise if Hicks sees additional playing time in the immediate future. Manager Joe Girardi figures to be looking for any spark that could help fill that offensive void for the slumbering Yankees.
May 4 - 4:28 PM

Yadier Molina is starting at first base for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

This will be just the third career start Molina has ever made at first base. He is batting fifth for the Cardinals, with Brandon Moss and Matt Adams both sitting out against Phillies left-hander Adam Morgan. Eric Fryer takes the start at catcher in Molina's place and is hitting eighth.
May 4 - 4:22 PM

Jon Lester tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in the Cubs' 6-2 victory over the Pirates.

Lester ran into a couple of jams, yielding eight total hits and walking two, but he did a fine job of damage control as usual on the way to five strikeouts. The left-hander is now 3-1 with a 1.58 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 38/9 K/BB ratio in 40 innings this season for the first-place Cubs. He will take on the punchless Padres at home next time out.
May 4 - 4:16 PM

Juan Nicasio allowed four runs -- one earned -- over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cubs.

The three unearned runs came in the third inning, when Andrew McCutchen couldn't corral a hot shot to center field by Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist followed with a three-run shot. It's possible that error on McCutchen gets changed to a hit for Rizzo. Nicasio, a popular fantasy sleeper this spring, stands 3-3 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 32/15 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings with the Bucs. He gave up eight hits and walked three on Wednesday. A road start against the Reds is next.
May 4 - 4:12 PM

Evan Gattis is not in the lineup for Wednesday's showdown with the Twins.

No injury to report here, just a regular day off for Gattis. Preston Tucker slides into the slugger's DH slot. Tucker is hitting sixth.
May 4 - 4:11 PM

Tyson Ross (shoulder) still has not been cleared for throwing.

Ross has been on the disabled list since April 9 with inflammation in his right shoulder and there is no timetable for a possible activation date. "He's still doing his stabilization exercises, feeling good," Padres manager Andy Green said Wednesday. "That process is ongoing until they determine that it's time to pick up a ball and throw."
May 4 - 4:01 PM

Jean Segura (hip) is out again Wednesday.

Segura also sat out Sunday and Tuesday with a nagging hip issue. It's thought to be minor. Phil Gosselin will start at second base and bat leadoff for Arizona on Wednesday night against Marlins ace Jose Fernandez.
May 4 - 3:51 PM

Steven Matz fired 7 2/3 shutout innings Wednesday in the Mets' 8-0 blanking of the Braves.

Matz didn't walk a batter, gave up just two hits -- both singles -- and struck out eight. The young left-hander struggled in his 2016 debut April 11 against the Marlins, but he has been absolutely sensational since. Matz will carry a 2.83 ERA and 1.19 WHIP into his next start on the road against the Dodgers. He also boasts a 30/7 K/BB ratio in 28 2/3 innings.
