Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs in two innings of relief Friday against the Tigers.

Syndergaard looked very good in his first inning after picking up for Matt Harvey, but he was equally shaky in the second, and he ended up throwing 44 pitches on the day, an abnormally high total for a pitcher's first appearance of the spring. Syndergaard has absolutely no chance of making the Mets this spring, but he does want to impress and stay ahead of some of the other options to be potentially called on as injury replacements this summer.

David Price pitched two hitless innings and struck out two Friday against the Mets.

While it was Matt Harvey everyone came to see, Price looked plenty good, too. He told the Free Press's Anthony Fenech that he's trying a new grip on his curveball, which was taught to him by fellow Vanderbilt product Sonny Gray.

Brett Cecil didn't pitch as scheduled on Friday due to left shoulder soreness.

It's not clear at this point whether it could be something significant. Cecil looks at the moment to be the Blue Jays' top option at closer, so obviously his status is something to note for fantasy owners. We'll update his condition when more information is available.

Greg Bird doubled in a run Friday as the Yankees topped the Phillies 4-1.

Bird, the Arizona Fall League MVP, is 3-for-7 with two doubles this spring. The Yankees' pickup of Garrett Jones made Bird much less of an AL-only sleeper this year, but he still might be a candidate to reach the majors this summer if he continues to kill the ball in Double-A. He hit .253/.379/.558 with seven homers in 95 at-bats after moving up to Double-A last year.
Mar 6 - 5:10 PM

Cole Hamels worked two scoreless innings, allowing just a single, Friday versus the Yankees.

Hamels struck out two and walked none with a number of scouts looking on. Even though his track record is pretty much spotless, he'll be watched as closely as any pitcher this spring.
Mar 6 - 5:08 PM

Marco Gonzales started and pitched a pair of scoreless innings Friday in the Cardinals' 5-2 defeat of the Astros.

The 23-year-old Gonzales is competing with Jaime Garcia and Carlos Martinez for one opening in the St. Louis rotation. He's also a possibility to begin the season in the bullpen. We're guessing the Cards will go with Garcia if he's healthy, but Gonzales has plenty of fantasy potential should he become the choice.
Mar 6 - 4:57 PM

Tommy Pham went 4-for-4 as the Cardinals' center fielder Friday against the Astros.

Pham made his major league debut last September, but he was given just two at-bats (striking out in both) with the Cardinals trying to lock off a postseason berth. In Triple-A, he hit .324/.395/.491 with 10 homers and 20 steals in 346 at-bats. Pham turns 27 in two days and he doesn't have anything left to prove in the minors, but he still doesn't figure to make the Cardinals as a bench player. He'd probably be better off in a different organization.
Mar 6 - 4:55 PM

Evan Gattis made his spring debut as a DH on Friday and had a double in three at-bats.

Gattis had some issues with dehydration earlier in the week, but he's just fine.
