Jeff Samardzija held the Twins to two runs and three hits over eight innings in a victory Friday.

Samardzija fanned nine, besting his previous season high in strikeouts by two. He's now 4-2 with a 4.28 ERA and a 49/12 K/BB ratio in 51 innings for the season. If he keeps striking out four batters for each one he walks (hardly an impossibility, considering he was at nearly 5:1 last season), his ERA should continue to drop.

Eric Stults was obliterated in a spot start against the Brewers on Friday, allowing seven runs on three hits over 3 2/3 innings of work.

The veteran southpaw also issued five walks while striking out five. The Brewers got a pair of runs in the first inning on a two-run blast by Ryan Braun, then added on seven in the fourth to break the game open and chase Stults. He was merely getting an opportunity with Alex Wood under the weather on Friday and will head back to the bullpen where he'll continue to function in a long relief role.

Adam Eaton went 0-for-4 on Friday to snap his 10-game hitting streak.

Eaton was just 5-for-20 in his last five games, so he wasn't exactly red-hot. Still, his current .229 average is a plenty better than his .186 mark from the final game before the streak started.

Eddie Rosario struck out twice and was credited with a sac bunt during Friday's game against the White Sox.

Since homering in his first major league at-bat, Rosario is 7-for-35 with one extra-base hit (a double) and a 15/1 K/BB ratio. But given his lousy Triple-A numbers, that shouldn't really come as any surprise. Instead of keeping him around as a backup, the Twins will probably return him to Triple-A soon.

Prince Fielder blasted a pair of home runs and drove home four runs on Friday as the Rangers outlasted the Yankees 10-9 in a wild game in New York.

The Rangers broke the game open by scoring seven runs in the third inning, with Fielder's three-run blast off starter Michael Pineda serving as the big blow. He tacked on a solo shot off Chasen Shreve in the seventh inning which would end up looming large. He's having a terrific season in the middle of the Rangers lineup, batting .341/.397/.521 with seven homers and 27 RBI.

Ross Ohlendorf earned his first career save on Friday, getting the final three outs against the Yankees.

He did allow a solo home run to Mark Teixeira, but was able to avoid any further damage. With Shawn Tolleson unavailable after working the previous two games, Rangers manager Jeff Bannister had to turn elsewhere and landed on Ohlendorf to protect a two-run advantage in the ninth. His usage speaks volumes about Neftali Feliz's current role in the Rangers bullpen.

Colby Lewis earned his fourth victory of the season on Friday, despite allowing five runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees.

The veteran right-hander struck out three on the night and didn't issue a walk. The Rangers offense staked him to an early 7-0 lead in this one, but he gave several runs back to let the Yankees back into the game before departing. While he boasts a solid 3.49 ERA and 44/14 K/BB ratio through 56 2/3 innings on the season, his 4.32 xFIP indicates he may be pitching a bit over his head. He'll take on the Indians in Cleveland his next time out on Wednesday.
May 22 - 11:03 PM

Didi Gregorius launched a three-run homer on Friday, but it wasn't enough for the Yankees to overcome the Rangers.

His three-run shot, his first of the season, came off Rangers starter Colby Lewis in the fourth inning, cutting the Rangers lead to 7-4 at the time. He has been a major disappointment at the dish early in the season, slashing a mere .217/.278/.278 with 10 RBI.
