Yankees recalled RHP Caleb Cotham from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Cotham made his major league debut last Wednesday, but was sent down after throwing 36 pitches over 1 2/3 innings. He'll hope to stick around longer this time.

Yankees placed OF/INF Dustin Ackley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 3, with a right lumbar strain.

Ackley was acquired from the Mariners last week and was a potential threat for playing time at second base, but that will have to wait for now. The Yankees called up right-hander Caleb Cotham to take his place on the active roster.

Mariners optioned RHP Jose Ramirez to Triple-A Tacoma.

Ramirez was acquired in last week's Dustin Ackley deal, but didn't make an appearance during his brief stint with the team. Mayckol Guaipe is expected to replace him on the active roster.

Brandon Kintzler (knee) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with the Brewers' rookie league affiliate.

Kintzler has been on the disabled list since the end of May with left knee tendinitis. He might only need a handful of appearances before rejoining the Brewers.

Jarred Cosart (inner ear disorder) is scheduled to see a specialist this week in Chicago.

Cosart landed on the disabled list in May due to vertigo and had a setback last month. The inner-ear disorder is on his right side and has impacted his "balance and gravity," but he's currently taking medication and has been throwing in recent days. More should be known this week, but he's hoping to be an option for the Marlins later this month or in September.

Jeff Blair of Sportsnet.ca writes that the Blue Jays could call up Josh Thole this weekend.

Russell Martin is getting banged up while attempting to catch R.A. Dickey, but of course Thole has extensive experience catching the knuckleballer. Every game is critical for the Blue Jays right now, so they could bring him back for their upcoming series against the Yankees.

James Wagner of the Toledo Blade writes that Matt Boyd's locker was empty after Tuesday's game with Triple-A Toledo.

This would seem to indicate that Boyd could be on his way to the majors. Acquired from the Blue Jays last week in the David Price deal, the southpaw threw two innings and 40 pitches in his organizational debut on Saturday, which some have speculated was a sign that he would be called up to start on short rest. Jason Beck of MLB.com writes that it's unlikely he'll pitch Tuesday, but that Wednesday is a strong possibility. Stay tuned.

The Mariners will recall right-hander Mayckol Guaipe from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Guaipe has allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings over two stints with the Mariners this season. He'll pitch in middle relief.
