Indians' manager Terry Francona said Sunday that struggling right-hander Josh Tomlin will work out of the bullpen for now.

Tomlin owns a cringe-inducing 7.84 ERA and 1.68 WHIP through 31 innings in seven appearances (six starts) this season, so this move is certainly warranted. Adam Plutko will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday to start in Tomlin's place.

Ender Inciarte said after Sunday's game that he's a little sore but expects to play on Monday.

Inciarte collided with the outfield wall during the fourth inning of Sunday's game against the Marlins, but it sounds like he was lucky to have avoided any injuries. The 27-year-old speedster is hitting .268/.322/.377 with four homers, 19 RBI and 18 stolen bases on the year.

Fernando Rodney struck out the side in the ninth inning Sunday against the Brewers, earning his ninth save of the season.

Protecting a two-run lead, Rodney made quick work of Domingo Santana, Jonathan Villar and Tyler Saladino to finish the Brewers off. Rodney had a few blips in late April but has been lights out in May, rattling off eight scoreless appearances while securing six saves. The good stretch has reasserted his place in the back end of the Twins' bullpen, and has lowered his ERA to 2.87 in 17 appearances this year.

Blue Jays optioned INF Richard Urena to Triple-A Buffalo.

No word yet on a potential corresponding move for the Blue Jays. The 22-year-old went hitless in three plate appearances on Sunday. He's hitting .278/.278/.444 in 19 plate appearances at the big league level this season. He'll assuredly get another opportunity with the Jays later this season.
May 20 - 6:38 PM

Junior Guerra allowed a run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Twins.

Guerra only gave up four hits and issued two walks, but it was the inefficiency with which he got outs -- Guerra threw 91 pitches and only 49 strikes -- that precipitated his early exit. Pitching deep into games hasn't been his strong suit -- after Sunday, he's gotten through six innings in just two of eight starts -- but Guerra has been effective when on the mound, posting a 2.98 ERA on the year. Guerra will next take on the Mets on Friday.
May 20 - 6:27 PM

Jake Odorizzi struck out 10 while allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Brewers.

Odorizzi's 10 strikeouts were the most he's had in a single game since April 5, 2016. He was cruising toward a win before Jesus Aguilar hit a two-out, solo homer in the sixth inning, and after a walk and a single he left the game without a shot at factoring in the decision. With the no-decision, Odorizzi remains 3-2 with a 3.17 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 10 starts. He's also struck out 55 in 54 innings of work, Only once, in 2014, has he struck out more than a batter per inning. Odorizzi will look to keep it going Saturday against the Mariners.

Indians designate RHP Alexi Ogando for assignment.

He's being sent out to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Melky Cabrera. He's still talented enough that another club could take a chance on him on waivers.
May 20 - 6:01 PM

Tyler Austin homered twice and drove in four runs as the Yankees pummeled the Royals 10-1 on Sunday.

Austin was a big fan of Royals starter Eric Skoglund, twice victimizing him for two-run homers before the lefty was chased from the contest. Neither one was cheap, either, as he hit one way out to left in the fourth inning before going to straight away center an inning later. Austin has run hot and cold this year, but he's in the midst of a heater at present, having gone 6-for-11 with three homers and seven RBI in his last three games. The hot streak has the 26-year-old's overall line up to .261/.324/.587 with eight homers and 23 RBI through Sunday.
