Rockies prospect RHP Jon Gray was rocked for seven earned runs on 10 hits in just 3 2/3 innings on Monday for Triple-A Albuquerque.

He struck out three and walked a pair in the outing. It’s been a brutal start to the season for the 23-year-old Gray, who is widely regarded as one of baseball’s premier pitching prospects. His 10.70 ERA through four starts is a product of 32 hits allowed and eight walks in 17 2/3 innings, though he has fanned 17 batters during that span. While the Pacific Coast League is notorious for being hitter friendly, Gray’s struggles are tied to his decreased fastball velocity and inability to throw his slider with consistent bite, neither of which was perceived as a potential issue when he was drafted. Gray still has a bright future in the major leagues, but it seems as though he’s more likely to serve as a mid-rotation starter than an ace.

Red Sox recalled OF Jackie Bradley, Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Bradley will provide some outfield depth with Shane Victorino (hamstring) on the disabled list. The 25-year-old has yet to produce in the majors, but he had a .315/.383/.411 batting line over his first 18 games with the PawSox this season.

Phillies prospect RHP Ben Lively fired seven shutout innings on Monday for Double-A Reading, striking out seven batters.

Lively allowed six hits and one walk in the outing, throwing 66 of 98 pitches for strikes. The 23-year-old owns a 1.42 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through three starts this season, and he’s held opposing hitters to a .212 average while registering a 15/6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 19 innings. Lively has posted outstanding numbers during his three-year career in the minors, with a 2.47 ERA, 10.3 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 in 211 innings. However, the quality of the right-hander’s stuff as well as his pitchability suggests the upside of a fourth or fifth starter at maturity. Given the state of the Phillies’ rotation, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Lively reach the major leagues later this season.

Red Sox optioned RHP Steven Wright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Wright was just called up Monday to provide a fresh arm for Boston's tired bullpen, but he wasn't needed. The 30-year-old should get another shot soon.

Ryan Braun is in Tuesday's lineup against the Reds.

Braun was out of the lineup for the second straight day Monday, but it was apparently a manager's decision. However, he'll bat third Tuesday against Reds ace Johnny Cueto. Braun is hitting just .226 with one home run and a .547 OPS so far this season.
Apr 28 - 3:07 PM

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said on MLB Network Radio that Jason Heyward (hamstring) is expected to be in the starting lineup Tuesday.

Heyward tweaked his left hamstring on Sunday and sat out Monday's game, but Matheny said they were just being cautious. Good news for the Cardinals.
Apr 28 - 2:58 PM

Wednesday's game between the White Sox and Orioles will start at 2:05 p.m. ET.

For safety reasons related to the ongoing protests in Baltimore, the game will be closed to the public. In addition, the Orioles announced that this weekend's series against the Rays, which was previously going to take place in Baltimore, will be moved to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. However, the Orioles will serve as the home team for those games. As for the postponed games from Monday and Tuesday, they will be made up as part of a doubleheader on May 28.
Apr 28 - 2:55 PM

Dalton Pompey is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Red Sox.

No official word from the team yet, but Barry Davis of Sportsnet writes that he might have injured his neck on Monday. We should know more about his status soon. Josh Donaldson will bat second for the Blue Jays on Monday while Kevin Pillar, Danny Valencia, and Michael Saunders will start in the outfield.
