Cody Allen notched his 18th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

On to protect a one-run lead, Allen devoured the Halos on just 11 pitches with a couple strikeouts and a flyout. Allen has been pitching later in games than Andrew Miller consistently of late, as it appears he's reclaimed his closer job even if Indians manager Terry Francona hasn't officially said so.

According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Royals are making progress toward acquiring Francisco Liriano.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Wednesday that Royals and Blue Jays were talking and now it appears as though a swap may be imminent. Liriano has registered a poor 5.99 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 70/42 K/BB ratio in 76 2/3 innings (17 starts) this season for Toronto. He should come rather cheap.

Francisco Lindor had an RBI single, a walk and a stolen base Tuesday versus the Angels.

Lindor's RBI single in the seventh inning put the Indians back ahead which turned out to be for good. The shortstop now has a modest seven-game hitting streak going and is batting .379 over that stretch. Lindor's stolen base was just his fifth on the season.

Carlos Santana belted a solo homer in Thursday's win over the Angels.

Santana's blast in the second inning off of JC Ramirez got the scoring going before Francisco Lindor broke the tie with an RBI single in the seventh. It's the third homer for Santana in his last four games, which is encouraging to see in a year where he's been a disappointment from a power perspective.

Zack Cozart (quad) remains out of the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday night.

Cozart re-injured his left quad while running the bases on Tuesday, though he hasn't been placed back on the disabled list yet. Jose Peraza is at shortstop and batting seventh Thursday versus Marlins left-hander Chris O'Grady.

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 at the plate Thursday in Cleveland, dropping his season line to .233/.280/.374.

Pujols went 0-for-15 at the dish in the series as the Indians swept the Angels. The future Hall of Famer's walk rate has been going in the wrong direction for years now and this season he hasn't produced much power to make up for it with a pedestrian 14 homers. The good news is he still remains a fixture in the No. 3 spot in the lineup behind Mike Trout, which means he's still on a 93-RBI pace even in a poor hitting campaign.

Yadier Molina will get the night off Thursday.

Carson Kelly is starting at catcher and batting seventh against Diamondbacks right-hander Zack Godley. It's a routine breather for Yadi.
Jul 27 - 3:03 PM

Jedd Gyorko is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Gyorko had a tremendous first half, but he's batting just .159 with a .500 OPS since the All-Star break. Greg Garcia will start at third base and hit eighth Thursday versus Arizona right-hander Zack Godley.
