Scooter Gennett (quad) is not in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday.

Gennett exited Tuesday's game against the Reds with right quad tightness. There's been no indication to this point that a stint on the disabled list might be required, but he could need a few more days to recover. Rickie Weeks is getting a rare start versus a right-hander Wednesday.

Ryan Hanigan (oblique) has resumed throwing but has yet to do any rotational work.

Players are usually about 10 days away from returning from an oblique injury once they do begin rotational work, so it appears Hanigan won't be back before the end of the month. The Rays will continue to use Jose Molina as their primary catcher while Hanigan is on the shelf.

Wil Myers - OF - Rays

Wil Myers (wrist) has begun some light throwing and is swinging with a Speed Hitter device.

Myers is aiming to rejoin the Rays' lineup in mid-August as he works his way back from a fractured right wrist. The reigning American League Rookie of the Year was hitting just .227/.313/.354 over 53 games prior to the injury.

Asdrubal Cabrera (back) remained out of the Indians' lineup Wednesday.

He's missed the last two games after exiting Monday's contest with back spasms. The Indians have called up Jose Ramirez to provide protection for Cabrera, who is considered day-to-day.

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins "remain interested" in Jim Johnson.

The Marlins nearly completed a deal for Johnson last month before opting for Bryan Morris instead. However, it appears they haven't given up on acquiring the struggling former closer, with Spencer saying the club has discussed sending pitching prospect Adam Conley to Oakland for the reliever. Johnson holds a 6.25 ERA with 23 walks in 40 innings this season and is making $10 million. The A's will have to pick up the bulk of the remainder of his contract in any trade.

Indians optioned LHP T.J. House to Triple-A Columbus.

That means Danny Salazar will stick around, at least until Justin Masterson (knee) returns. House holds a 4.50 ERA over 50 innings this season and isn't guaranteed any more starts with the big club.
Jul 23 - 10:40 AM

Indians recalled INF Jose Ramirez from Triple-A Columbus.

Ramirez will provide some infield depth with Asdrubal Cabrera (back) banged up. He's hit just .080 (2-for-25) during his time with the Indians this season.

Eric Hosmer (hand) isn't expected to return to the Royals' lineup until at least Thursday.

Hosmer missed a second straight game Tuesday with a bruised right hand, and he's expected to sit out Wednesday, as well. The first baseman suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch Sunday and the Royals don't want the ailment to linger. "That’s why I’m hoping this doesn’t linger," manager Ned Yost said. "Give him a couple days now. It might save him. Instead of battling through it, and it affecting him for three weeks, instead of a week. Get it to where it’s manageable."
