Robbie Erlin (elbow) will move his rehab assignment up to Double-A San Antonio on Friday.
Erin struck out five over two scoreless innings for the Padres' Arizona League club on Sunday. It's not clear what he'll get his pitch count up to on Friday, but the left-hander appears to be tracking towards a mid-August return.
Brewers optioned OF Logan Schafer to Triple-A Nashville.
He's clearing room for Gerardo Parra, who was added via trade Thursday. Schafer has batted only .183/.267/.288 with the big club this season.
Mets activated C Taylor Teagarden from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.
With Travis d'Arnaud and Anthony Recker on the active roster, there was no need for Teagarden. He'll be back up next month as the third catcher.
Athletics sent OF Kenny Wilson outright to Double-A Midland.
Wilson cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. He had just been claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays last month.
Giants released LHP Jose De Paula.
De Paula cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but the Giants just decided to cut bait. He held a 4.21 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 41/16 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings at Triple-A Fresno this season.
Jon Lester will make his Athletics' debut on Saturday against the Royals.
Coincidentally, Saturday happens to be Yoenis Cespedes (who was traded for Lester) t-shirt day at O.co Coliseum. Lester has put up a 2.52 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 149/32 K/BB ratio in 143 innings this season and should only get better at his new pitcher-friendly park.
Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Astros will call up pitching prospect Michael Foltynewicz from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.
Ortiz says the Astros plan to use Foltynewicz as a reliever. Eighteen of the 22-year-old's 21 appearances at Oklahoma City this season have been as a starter, but many scouts ultimately see Foltynewicz as a reliever over the long haul. Ranked prior to the season by Baseball America as the team's No. 4 prospect, Foltynewicz holds a 5.08 ERA but has struck out a batter per inning at Triple-A. His fastball can reach triple digits.
Jarred Cosart will make his Marlins' debut on Friday against the Reds.
He'll take the spot of Jacob Turner, who is presumably headed to the bullpen. Acquire via trade from the Astros on Thursday, Cosart holds a 4.41 ERA with just 75 strikeouts over 116 1/3 innings this season. He's not really an option in mixed leagues.
