Mike Aviles hit two singles and drove in three in Cleveland's win over the Rangers on Friday.

Aviles ended the night 2-for-4. He hit an RBI single in the fourth off of Texas starter Jerome Williams and followed it up with a two-run single in the fifth. The utility infielder is batting .261/.291/.339 on the season.

Michael Brantley went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Rangers on Friday.

Brantley was one of many offensive stars for the Indians, as the team ended up winning 12-2. His RBI double in the first to score Mike Aviles got things started and the team rolled from there. Brantley knocked in his second run on an RBI single off Jerome Williams in the fourth. He now has 68 RBI to go with a superb .320/.382/.509 slash line.

Adrian Gonzalez is considered day-to-day after leaving Friday's contest against the Cubs with a bruised right knee.

He sustained the injury sliding into home plate. Gonzalez owners can breathe a sigh of relief, as the slugger should return to the Dodgers lineup at some point over the weekend.

Elvis Andrus went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Friday's 12-2 shellacking by the Indians.

Andrus' RBI single in the ninth off of Carlos Carrasco amounted to the equivalent of a sad emoticon at the end of a forgettable game for the road team. The base knock gave Andrus 29 RBI on the season. He's slashing a disappointing .270/.319/.345 in what's turned into a lost year for the Rangers.

Gregorio Petit blasted his first career home run in the eighth inning on Friday, powering the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

With Marwin Gonzalez still recovering from a hamstring injury and needing an occasional day off, Petit got the start at shortstop and delivered the biggest blow of the ballgame with his eighth inning shot off Aaron Loup to break a 1-1 tie. He has done a nice job in his limited time with the Astros, going 4-for-13 (.308).

Chad Qualls worked a scoreless ninth inning against the Blue Jays on Friday, protecting a two-run lead and earning his 12th save of the season.

The veteran right-hander struck out a pair while allowing one hit in his inning of work. He has done a nice job out of the Astros bullpen this season, compiling a 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 37/5 K/BB ratio over 38 2/3 innings.
Aug 2 - 12:05 AM

Collin McHugh delivered a strong start in a no-decision against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing just one run on five hits over 6 1/3 frames.

McHugh punched out five on the evening and issued one walk. After a sacrifice fly in the first inning, he was able to keep the high-powered Jays offense at bay for the remainder of the evening, allowing his team to come back and win. He'll bring a solid 3.32 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 107/35 K/BB ratio into Thursday's matchup against the Phillies in Philadelphia.
Aug 2 - 12:03 AM

Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI in the Red Sox 4-3 win over the Yankees on Friday.

Pedroia hit a ground rule double in the third to knock in Brock Holt after Holt tripled, then smacked an RBI single in the seventh to drive in rookie Mookie Betts. It was a nice game for Pedroia, who could use a lot more like this. This season, he's hitting .278/.343/.374. The average and OBP are fine, but it's clear that Pedroia has lost a bit of his laser show power as injuries and the inevitable march of time have worn on him.
