A.J. Griffin yielded two runs in 5 2/3 innings in an 8-3 victory over the Royals on Friday.

The only damage was a two-run homer off the bat of Eric Hosmer in the sixth. While Griffin failed to complete six innings, this was his longest start in seven chances since coming off the disabled list last month. It also gave him his first win since April. Still, he struck out just one batter and owns an underwhelming 12/11 K/BB ratio over his last five starts.

Edinson Volquez was tagged for six runs (five earned) over six innings in a loss to the Rangers on Friday.

Volquez put himself in an early hole after giving up three runs in the first inning and never really recovered. He allowed nine hits (including two homers) in all while walking two and striking out five. The veteran right-hander was on a nice roll coming into Friday’s outing, but this wasn’t what the Royals wanted to see with the trade deadline coming up on Monday. Interestingly, the Rangers are reportedly one of the teams interested in him. Volquez now has a 4.70 ERA through 22 starts on the year.

Rougned Odor finished 3-for-4 with a pair of solo homers in a win over the Royals on Friday.

It was the second multi-homer game of his career. The first one was a legitimate blast, but the second just barely eked over the right field fence. But it all counts the same in the box score. He’s now up to 21 homers on the year to go along with 54 RBI, 10 steals, and a .282/.301/.508 batting line.

Jurickson Profar went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, a walk, and three runs scored Friday against the Royals.

Profar, who batted leadoff, went opposite-field off Edinson Volquez in the sixth. It’s worth noting that he made the start in left field. He previously made four starts at the position in 2013, but this was his first with the Rangers this year. There’s always the chance that Profar could be traded in a blockbuster deal by Monday’s deadline, but his versatility could come in handy for the Rangers down the stretch.

Eric Hosmer clubbed a two-run homer in a loss to the Rangers on Friday.

Hosmer has been in quite the slumber at the plate, as his sixth-inning blast against A.J. Griffin snapped a 2-for-33 stretch. The homer was his first since July 4. He’s batting just .233 over his last 50 games.
Jul 30 - 12:33 AM

Alex Gordon went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout against the Rangers on Friday.

The Royals have now lost eight out of their last 10 games and now sit 10 games behind the Indians in the American League Central. Gordon had a three-hit game on Wednesday and has done a better job getting on base since being dropped from the leadoff spot earlier this month, but it’s still been a brutally disappointing year for him. He’s batting just .207/.313/.339 through 71 games.

Joe Mauer delivered a walk-off victory for the Twins in the 12th inning on Friday with a pinch-hit bases-loaded walk.

It's only the second walk-off that Mauer has recorded in his career. It has been a disappointing season offensively for him, slashing just .263/.363/.376 with eight homers and 33 RBI.
Jul 30 - 12:09 AM

Ricky Nolasco delivered an outstanding performance in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings.

Nolasco surrendered a leadoff home run to Adam Eaton to start the ballgame, then limited the White Sox to just two hits and a walk over the rest of his outing. The right-hander struck out six on the evening. While he still isn't trustworthy in mixed leagues, he had delivered two strong outings in a row and could be worth a look in a decent matchup against the Indians in Cleveland on Wednesday.
