X-rays on Sonny Gray's right ankle came back negative.

Gray was hit on the ankle by a comebacker during Sunday's start in Tampa. He's escaped with merely a bruise and should be ready to roll later this week for his next scheduled start.
May 24 - 3:28 PM

Sonny Gray had to exit Sunday's start against the Rays with a right ankle contusion.

Gray was hit by a comebacker in the fourth inning. He initially stayed in and completed five scoreless frames, but the ankle must have swelled up on him. Gray should be fine for his next start.

Matt Stites (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Visalia later this week.

It will come after he makes one final appearance in extended spring training on Monday. Stites was diagnosed with a strained right flexor tendon in spring training, but he's made nice progress lately and it appears he could be back early next month.

Pedro Baez (pectoral) is pain-free and will begin a throwing program soon.

Baez has been out for over a week with a right pectoral strain, but he's apparently over the ailment. It sounds like he could be ready for activation when eligible or shortly after.
May 24 - 2:29 PM

Yasmani Grandal (concussion) is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible next Saturday.

Grandal was placed on the DL Saturday with a mild concussion, but the Dodgers anticipate him being ready to play in a few days. He could play 2-3 rehab games before being activated.

Giants recalled RHP Hunter Strickland from Triple-A Sacramento.

Strickland had technically been sent back down after Saturday's doubleheader, but he's now back to take Casey McGehee's spot on the roster. The hard thrower will serve a middle relief role.
May 24 - 2:24 PM

Giants designated 3B Casey McGehee for assignment.

The Giants traded for McGehee over the winter in hopes that he'd pick up some of the offensive slack following the loss to Pablo Sandoval. It would be an understatement to say it didn't work out, as he hit just .200/.254/.282 and is now off the roster. Matt Duffy will be San Francisco's regular third baseman.
May 24 - 2:10 PM

Matt Holliday was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left arm contusion.

Holliday was hit on the arm by a pitch during Saturday's game and evidently is still sore. Pete Kozma entered the lineup at shortstop in Holliday's place, with Jhonny Peralta sliding into the designated hitter spot and Mark Reynolds moving to left field.
