White Sox manager Robin Ventura admitted Thursday that David Robertson has battled some general soreness this spring.

That might help explain Robertson's 7.71 Cactus League ERA. Ventura added that he's not concerned about the $46 million closer being ready for Opening Day, but this is obviously something to monitor. He had a 3.08 ERA with 39 saves and a 96/23 K/BB ratio in 64 1/3 innings last season with the Yankees.

Christian Vazquez (elbow) expressed confidence Thursday that he will be ready for the season-opener.

Vazquez has appeared in just one game since March 13 due to elbow soreness, but he threw to bases Thursday in Red Sox camp and felt good. Boston's young starting catcher will play in a minor league game Friday.

Chris Tillman said Thursday that he doesn't want to discuss his contract with the Orioles beyond Opening Day.

So that's the deadline for the current negotiations between the O's and Tillman's agent. Tillman can't become a free agent until 2018, but the Orioles are interested in buying out his arbitration years (at the very least). The 26-year-old right-hander boasts a 3.42 ERA and 1.195 WHIP in 499 2/3 innings over the last three seasons.

Nationals manager Matt Williams acknowledged that Jayson Werth still experiences some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder when he tries to hit.

"You do run out of time," Williams responded when asked whether Werth will be ready for Opening Day. The veteran outfielder still hasn't been cleared for full-on live batting practice and seems highly doubtful to be active on April 6. Nate McLouth is also at risk of missing the opener due to a shoulder injury, so it could be Tyler Moore in left field for the Nats.
Mar 26 - 2:45 PM

Bryce Harper was sent home early from Nationals camp on Thursday due to a stomach virus.

Harper tried some light swinging but didn't feel so great. He's expected to return to Grapefruit League action Friday and he'll be in right field for the Nats on Opening Day. Harper has a homer, a stolen base, and an .829 OPS in 12 games this spring.

Padres placed C Tim Federowicz on the 60-day disabled list with a right knee injury.

Federowicz could miss up to six months after completely tearing the meniscus in his right knee in early March. Wil Nieves will back up Derek Norris in San Diego.

Padres claimed RHP Jandel Gustave off waivers from the Royals.

Gustave was waived by Kansas City on Tuesday once it became clear that he wasn't going to make the Royals' Opening Day roster. He posted an underwhelming 5.01 ERA and 82/29 K/BB ratio in 79 innings last season at Low-A Quad Cities, but the 22-year-old right-hander has pretty good raw stuff.

Reds acquired 1B Dan Johnson from the Astros for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Johnson, 35, was batting .158 in 25 plate appearances this spring with the Astros. He'll head to the minor league side of Reds camp and won't be in consideration for the Opening Day roster.
