Josh Rutledge (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

He's batting fifth and DHing at home against Norfolk. Rutledge has been out a month with a concussion but appears to be on the mend. When healthy, he'll occupy a third base platoon with Brock Holt. Of course, that's assuming Boston doesn't add a third baseman at the trade deadline.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Rays have been "looking at" A.J. Ramos.

Per Heyman, the Rays are also in the running for Tigers closer Justin Wilson, though he's being pursued by a number of other teams and probably a long shot to end up in Tampa Bay. The Marlins just traded setup man David Phelps to the Mariners and dealing Ramos could be their next move. Ramos hasn't had the smoothest year (4.08 ERA, 1.30 WHIP) but he's only blown two saves and still carries an impressive 11.46 K/9 over 36 outings. He'd be an upgrade for a Rays bullpen that ranks 21st in the league in ERA (4.37).

Jameson Taillon improved to 6-3 after allowing two runs over 5 1/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Brewers.

Taillon struck out eight today. He's fanned 22 batters in 15 1/3 innings this month, which includes his two high strikeout games of the year (eight today and nine against the Phillies on July 4). It seems like a pretty strong second half is on the way.
Jul 20 - 4:20 PM

Jimmy Nelson gave up four runs over five innings to take a loss to the Pirates on Thursday.

Even Nelson's bad starts haven't been that bad; he hasn't allowed more than four runs in a game since April. He struck out five and walked one today, and he's now 8-5 with a 3.43 ERA overall.
Jul 20 - 4:16 PM

Chris Stewart went 3-for-3 with an RBI versus the Brewers in Thursday's win.

Stewart was making his first start since July 4. He had as many hits today as he did in 27 at-bats since returning from the disabled list on June 18.
Jul 20 - 4:14 PM

Jonathan Villar, who didn't start Tuesday or Wednesday, went 2-for-5 as the Brewers' leadoff man Thursday.

Unfortunately, he was caught stealing on his steal attempt. Villar is hitting .250 with a .286 OBP in 72 at-bats since coming off the disabled list last month. It looked like he'd reclaim that starting job at second base when he played well in his first few games back, but he's just treading water now.
Jul 20 - 4:11 PM

Jake Lamb hit a pair of three-run homers in the Diamondbacks' 12-2 rout of the Reds on Thursday.

Lamb was hitting fourth behind Paul Goldschmidt prior to the J.D. Martinez acquisition. He was moved up to the third spot ahead of Goldschmidt last night and remained there today, even though an injury had Martinez out of the lineup. Fourth is probably a little better for his fantasy value, but it shouldn't matter much. He's up to 22 homers and 76 RBI.
Jul 20 - 3:55 PM

Patrick Corbin allowed just one run over 7 1/3 innings in pitching the Diamondbacks past the Reds on Thursday.

Corbin has turned in three straight quality starts and five in six outings. It's helped a bunch that he's faced a light schedule during that stretch (really, he's faced a light one all year), but anyone who remained patient with him is reaping the rewards.
