Newsday's Marc Carig reports that teams have started calling the Mets about Bartolo Colon.

Carig notes that the Mets are gauging the market and don’t seem inclined to eat money to make a deal work. Colon is making $9 million and will earn $11 million in 2015. The rotund right-hander holds a 4.12 ERA and 95/18 K/BB ratio over 126 2/3 innings for the Mets this season.

Joe Mauer (oblique) has progressed to hitting off a tee.

It's a nice step after he took dry swings over the weekend, but a clear timetable for his return won't be known until he faces live pitching. Mauer has been out since early July with a strained right oblique.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Brandon Belt (concussion) is "making progress" but is still a couple days away from resuming baseball activities.

Belt was placed on the 7-day concussion DL Monday after being hit in the head by a thrown ball Saturday during batting practice. Concussions are always tricky, but it does sound like he has a chance to return relatively quickly. The Giants are using Buster Posey and Adam Duvall at first base while Belt is out.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners are among the teams interested in Casey McGehee.

McGehee has played his way into being a nice trade chip for the Marlins, batting .322 with 56 RBI. The Mariners are intent on finding a right-handed bat but have mostly been looking at outfielders. McGehee has played just one game in the outfield as a pro, but he could be used in the DH spot, with Corey Hart shifting to the outfield.

Alex Rios (ankle) is expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday.

Rios tested out his sore right ankle prior to Tuesday's game and said he's fine, but Rangers manager Ron Washington elected to hold the outfielder out for a third straight game. "It felt good," Rios said. "I know Wash wanted to give me an extra day, but I'm ready. I expect to be as good as ever."
Jul 22 - 7:31 PM

Alberto Callaspo (hamstring) took a successful round of batting practice Tuesday.

It's the first time he's done so since landing on the DL. Callaspo has also done some running, though he's yet to run the bases. He's expected to be activated in the middle of next week if all goes well.
Jul 22 - 7:23 PM

Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) will be cleared for a rehab assignment if a bullpen session on Wednesday goes well.

Jimenez had been scheduled to begin his rehab assignment Wednesday, but the Orioles decided to have him throw one more 'pen session first. He should only need one rehab start, putting him in line to rejoin the rotation next week if all goes well.

Drew VerHagen will undergo an MRI on his lower left side.

He could also receive a bone scan. VerHagen evidently must have been injured while making his major league debut on Saturday. He's since been optioned to Triple-A.
