Ivan Nova wasn't sharp in a loss to the Rays on Sunday, allowing four runs (three earned) in five innings.

Nova looked good in his first two starts since his activation from the disabled list, but he didn't have much working on Sunday. The Rays racked up six hits and drew three walks while striking out only once. Nevertheless, Nova owns a 2.65 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and a 9/7 K/BB ratio in 17 innings over three starts. He'll take the mound at Fenway Park against the Red Sox in his next start.

Kevin Kiermaier extended his major league lead in triples to eight, finishing 2-for-4 in Sunday's victory against the Yankees.

Kiermaier tripled to lead off the second inning and later scored on Curt Casali's sacrifice fly for the Rays' third run of the game. Despite his propensity for triples, Kiermaier hasn't done much else at the plate this year, batting .255/.289/.419 with four home runs and 16 RBI. He has scored 35 runs as well.

Alex Rodriguez clubbed the 670th home run of his career but the Yankees dropped Sunday's contest to the Rays.

Rodriguez finished 1-for-3 with a walk. His home run came with the bases empty in the sixth inning, serving as the Yankees' only run of the afternoon and the lone blemish on Erasmo Ramirez's line. Rodriguez hadn't registered an extra-base hit since his last home run on June 23, a span of nine games. He's currently batting .284/.390/.513 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI, quite a nice bounce-back season after missing all of 2014.

Dodgers OF prospect Alex Verdugo belted three hits Saturday in a loss for High-A Great Lakes.

Verdugo has been scorching-hot recently. He's hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, raising his average from .228 to .273 over that span. Since getting rid of his leg kick 13 games ago, the 19-year-old has hit .439 with five doubles in 57 at-bats. As long as Verdugo can avoid bad habits, he should rise quickly through the Dodgers' system.

Taylor Jungmann stayed hot, firing eight innings of one-run ball as the Brewers defeated the Reds 6-1 on Sunday.

Jungmann held the opposition to four hits and a pair of walks with four strikeouts in the outing. The lone run came around in his final inning on a Brandon Phillips RBI double. The 25-year-old, in six starts, has been excellent, compiling a 2.43 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP and a 27/10 K/BB ratio in 37 innings. Jungmann will be tested in his next start as he'll face the Dodgers in L.A.
Jul 5 - 4:05 PM

Mike Leake notched a quality start but lost to the Brewers on Sunday, yielding three runs in six innings.

Leake allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out four. The Brewers weren't hitting him particularly hard, as six of the eight hits were singles, but they were hitting him often. Leake has earned a quality start in three of his last four outings, but still has a mediocre 4.39 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and a 69/30 K/BB ratio in 106 2/3 innings. He'll look to get back into the win column in his next start on the road against the Marlins.
Jul 5 - 4:02 PM

Gerardo Parra went 2-for-5 with a solo home run as the Brewers topped the Reds on Sunday.

Parra homered in the seventh inning off of Carlos Contreras, extending the Brewers' lead to 4-0. The outfielder has racked up five consecutive multi-hit games to open up the month of July. The surge has raised his triple-slash line to .308/.345/.477 with seven home runs and 25 RBI.
Jul 5 - 4:00 PM

Cubs signed RHP Ben Rowen to a minor league contract.

Rowen recently opted out of his minor league deal with the Orioles after posting a 2.41 ERA with 24 strikeouts over 37 1/3 innings. He'll give the Cubs some relief depth.
