Garrett Richards came apart late, allowing four runs in 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

Richards had a no-hitter through the first four innings, but the Astros manufactured a pair of runs in the fifth, then clubbed a solo home run in both the sixth and seventh. Overall, the right-hander gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Richards has cobbled together a fine season, currently holding a 3.38 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and a 91/41 K/BB ratio over 122 2/3 innings. He'll take a crack at the struggling Indians at home next week.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Phillies will acquire Matt Harrison, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro and Nick Williams in exchange for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman.

Alfaro, Williams and Thompson are the three best prospects in the deal, and represent a nice return package for the Phillies. The Rangers get another ace to pair with Yu Darvish for the next few seasons as they strive to return to glory in the American League West.

Lance McCullers pitched well in a winning effort on Wednesday against the Angels, allowing only one run in seven innings of work.

The right-hander gave up an RBI triple to Conor Gillaspie in the second inning, but that was it. He scattered five hits while walking none and striking out five. With the win, the Astros retake sole possession of first place in the AL West over the Angels. McCullers has been quite effective in his first 13 major league starts, brandishing a 2.48 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and a 78/27 K/BB ratio over 76 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Rangers in a road start next.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that Matt Harrison is heading to the Phillies as part of package for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman.

Harrison has struggled in his return from the disabled list, posting a 6.75 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 5/6 K/BB ratio over 16 innings. With all of the rotation woes in Philadelphia though, he should be able to hold down a rotation spot for the remainder of the season.
Jul 29 - 10:55 PM

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Marlins are expected to receive Jeff Brigham, Victor Araujo and Kevin Guzman from the Dodgers in the three-team deal with the Braves.

The Marlins will send Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Dodgers, as well as a compensation pick to the Braves as part of the deal. While nothing has been officially announced yet, Frisaro believes that the trade will get done. Expect an official announcement on Thursday.
Jul 29 - 10:38 PM

Doug Fister gave up only two runs in six innings, earning the win as the Nationals beat the Marlins 7-2 on Wednesday.

Ichiro Suzuki hit an RBI double in the second inning and Adeiny Hechavarria added an RBI single in the fourth to account for the damage. Fister, overall, allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four. He's only had a couple of solid starts since coming off of the disabled list and owns a 4.39 ERA with a 1.43 WHIP and a 42/18 K/BB ratio over 80 innings. Fister matches up at home with the Diamondbacks next.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports confirms that the Rangers have agreed to a deal to acquire Cole Hamels from the Phillies.

TR Sullivan of MLB.com had first reported that the two sides were very close on ironing out a deal. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that Jorge Alfaro, Jerad Eickhoff and and Nick Williams will head to the Phillies, while Jake Diekman will join the Rangers. The Phillies will also send cash to the Rangers as part of the deal. Expect everything to be finalized and officially announced on Thursday.
Jul 29 - 10:29 PM

Tom Koehler left with a loss on Wednesday after yielding five runs in six innings versus the Nationals.

The Nationals scored twice in the fourth inning when Ian Desmond hit an RBI triple and later came home on a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Bryce Harper slugged a three-run home run. Koehler, overall, gave up six hits and a walk while striking out four. He's mostly been reliable this season, sporting a 3.38 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP, and an 82/40 K/BB ratio over 117 innings. The right-hander hosts the Mets in his next outing.
