Kelly Johnson went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run home run to help the Braves fend off the Brewers on Monday.

Johnson started the scoring with a two-run blast to right-field off of Kyle Lohse in the first inning. He added an RBI single in the second inning to make it a 4-1 game. The 33-year-old has cooled off considerably since being activated from the disabled list a month ago, but is still hitting a respectable .272/.315/.437 with seven home runs and 28 RBI.

Twins purchased the contract of LHP Ryan O'Rourke from Triple-A Rochester.

O'Rourke, 27, holds a 5.40 ERA over 22 relief appearances between Double- and Triple-A this season, although he's struck out 25 across 15 innings. He'll be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
Jul 6 - 11:30 PM

Twins optioned LHP Aaron Thompson to Triple-A Rochester.

Thompson has struggled the last few weeks and holds a 5.01 ERA over 41 appearances this season. He's replaced in the bullpen by Ryan O'Rourke.
Jul 6 - 11:28 PM

Wei-Yin Chen tossed seven innings of two-run ball, but was left with a no-decision as the Orioles lost 4-2 to the Twins in 10 innings on Monday.

Chen allowed four hits and three walks while striking out five. Like opposing starter Phil Hughes, the only two runs the lefty allowed scored on solo home runs: to Torii Hunter in the first inning and to Aaron Hicks in the second. Chen's underrated season continues, as he is brandishing a 2.82 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP and an 83/25 K/BB ratio in 102 innings. He will close out the first half with a home start against the Nationals.
Jul 6 - 11:12 PM

Phil Hughes relented two runs in 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision, as the Twins eked out a 10-inning win against the Orioles on Monday.

Hughes allowed nine hits, but only two mattered: solo home runs to Manny Machado and Adam Jones. He also walked one and struck out three. Hughes has notched a quality start in five of his last six starts and currently owns a 4.19 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and a 67/11 K/BB ratio in 111 2/3 innings. He will face the Miguel Cabrera-less Tigers at home in his next start.
Jul 6 - 11:10 PM

Adam Jones went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Monday's 10-inning loss to the Twins.

Jones created a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning when he hit a solo home run off of Phil Hughes. The 29-year-old on Monday was named to his fifth All-Star team. He's currently batting .285/.332/.470 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI.
Jul 6 - 11:07 PM

Manny Machado, on his 23rd birthday, went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run, but the Orioles were unable to stave off the Twins on Monday.

Machado gave the Orioles an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run against Phil Hughes. He's having a career year, batting .301/.360/.531 with 18 home runs, 47 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. Machado has been named to the AL All-Star team, but starting honors have gone to Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson.
Jul 6 - 11:06 PM

Brian Dozier slugged a walk-off two-run home run in the 10th inning, helping the Twins outlast the Orioles on Monday.

Dozier was 0-for-3 with a walk leading into the at-bat against Tommy Hunter. Perhaps angered by his being left off the AL All-Star roster, Dozier parked a two-run home run beyond the left field fence for his 17th home run of the season. Among qualified second basemen, Stephen Drew is the only other hitter at the position with double-digits in home runs (11). Dozier is hitting a cool .260/.332/.517 with 42 RBI and seven stolen bases.
