The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe reports suspended WR Brian Tyms will remain with the Patriots during his suspension.

It was a no-brainer move for the Pats. Tyms will not count against New England's roster during his four-game suspension, and was stellar this preseason, grading out a Pro Football Focus' No. 1 wide receiver. Tyms will battle for snaps at the bottom of New England's wide receiver depth chart when he returns.

Free agent OLB James Harrison has retired from the NFL after 12 seasons.

Jets released RB Daryl Richardson.

Richardson opened 2013 as the starter in St. Louis, but cannot survive final cuts this time around. Only 24, Richardson should get some looks from running back needy teams. Richardson's release likely means Bilal Powell has made the final roster.

Bucs waived QB Mike Kafka.

The Bucs were never going to keep a third quarterback behind Josh McCown and Mike Glennon. Kafka gave them no reason to by completing just 40.6 percent of his passes this preseason for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

Bucs waived RB/KR Jeff Demps.

Demps (5-foot-8, 191) is too small to play running back and didn't make enough of an impact in the return game this preseason to keep a roster spot. The Olympic sprinter is the fastest man in the NFL, but he only plays special teams.

Broncos RB Ronnie Hillman and CB Kayvon Webster were treated for an illness at a Dallas' area hospital following the team's final preseason game Thursday night.

The Broncos' did not disclose the nature of the illness. Webster had to be helped from the locker room, and ended up spending the night at the hospital. Both are expected to be ready for the team's first regular-season practice Monday. Hillman should open the season as the No. 2 back in Denver.

Panthers waived OT Andrew McDonald and OT David Foucault.

McDonald was part of Dolphins Bullygate last season as the infamous "Player A" named in the Ted Wells Report. He recently overcame testicular cancer.

Undrafted rookie WR Corey Washington has made the Giants' 53-man roster.

We wouldn't be surprised to see Washington play in three- or four-wide sets to open the year. The 22-year-old from tiny Newberry college finished the exhibition season with 10 catches for 155 yards and four touchdowns. A favorite of small-school receiver guru Matthew Freedman, Washington has 4.50 speed and a 10-foot-5 broad jump at 6-foot-4, 214. He's worth a serious look in Dynasty leagues.
