Yusmeiro Petit delivered a strong effort in his Cactus League debut, tossing two perfect innings in a victory over the Rangers.

With Ryan Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum competing for the final opening in the Giants rotation, Petit is slated to be utilized in a "super reliever" role this season. While it's a terrific way for the Giants to get value out of him, it strips most of his fantasy value away outside of NL-only formats.

Jake Smolinski belted a solo home run in his lone at bat in Friday's Cactus League loss to the Giants.

The 26-year-old tagged George Kontos in the ninth inning to give the Rangers their third and final run on the afternoon. With a strong showing this spring, he could put himself in the conversation to start in left field, or at least a platoon situation.

Nick Tepesch was obliterated by the Giants in Cactus League play on Friday, allowing seven runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings.

The Giants got to him early and often in this one, including Matt Duffy leaving the yard to start a five-run uprising in the second inning. While he's still being considered for one of the final spots in the Opening Day rotation, he'll have to pitch much better than this to have a chance.

Ryan Raburn went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI as the Indians fell to the Royals in Cactus League play on Friday in Arizona.

The 33-year-old utilityman drove home two runs with a single off Yordano Ventura in the first inning, giving the Tribe an early 4-1 advantage. He's looking to rebound from an atrocious 2014 season where he slashed just .200/.250/.297 with four homers and 22 RBI in 195 at-bats.
Mar 6 - 6:36 PM

Danny Salazar surrendered a pair of runs on three hits and a walk in his Cactus League debut against the Royals on Friday.

It wasn’t all bad for the young right-hander though, as he managed to strike out four in his two innings of work. He came out of the gate strong, striking out the first two hitters he faced before Alex Rios tagged him for a solo homer. The 25-year-old is viewed as the favorite for the fifth and final spot in the Indians rotation.
Mar 6 - 6:33 PM

Alex Rios went 3-for-4 and blasted his second home run of Cactus League play as the Royals topped the Indians 11-9 on Friday.

The 34-year-old outfielder has started his spring in impressive fashion, going 5-for-7 with a pair of homers and six RBI. His fantasy value is depressed after hitting just four homers and driving home 54 runs over 131 games in 2014, so there's profit to be had here if you believe in a rebound.
Mar 6 - 6:33 PM

Yordano Ventura was hit hard in his Cactus League debut against the Indians on Friday, giving up four runs on four hits and a pair of walks in just one inning of work.

The hard-throwing struck out Mike Aviles after a leadoff walk to Michael Bourn, but the wheels came off after that, with Ryan Raburn’s two-run single providing the bulk of the damage. The 23-year-old enters the 2015 season as the de-facto ace of the Royals staff after compiling a 3.20 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 159/69 K/BB ratio over 183 innings last season.
Mar 6 - 6:29 PM

Erisbel Arruebarrena had a nice day at the dish in a split-squad victory over the Mariners on Friday, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The 24-year-old appeared in just 22 games with the Dodgers in 2014, hitting an anemic .195/.244/.220 with four RBI and a 17/3 K/BB ratio. He'll need a strong showing this spring to earn a spot as a reserve infielder on the Opening Day roster.
