Oswaldo Arcia was sent home early from Twins camp on Monday.

Arcia is battling a mild illness. It's not a big deal. The 23-year-old outfielder will be looking to take another big step forward in 2015 after batting .231/.300/.452 with 20 home runs in 103 games last season.

Randal Grichuk (back) resumed workouts Monday.

Grichuk took it easy this weekend due to some mild lower back soreness and might be held out of the Cardinals' first few Grapefruit League games, but the discomfort doesn't seem like a huge concern. Grichuk is due to open the 2015 season in a backup role behind starting outfielders Matt Holliday, Jon Jay, and Jason Heyward.

Justin Verlander has impressed the Tigers coaching staff in his recent side sessions.

Verlander threw live batting practice to hitters on a backfield Sunday in Lakeland, Florida and apparently looked sharp. "That's the best I've seen Ver stuff-wise, off the mound, since I've gotten this job," manager Brad Ausmus told reporters. "It's exactly what we wanted." The veteran right-hander is trying to bounce back in a big way after posting a disappointing 4.54 ERA in 206 innings last season.

Nate McLouth (shoulder) expects to be ready for the beginning of the 2015 regular season.

And he could start in left field on Opening Day if Jayson Werth (shoulder) isn't ready. McLouth underwent surgery last August to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He's nearly up to speed with the other position players in Nats camp this spring.

Trevor Plouffe (illness) got back to work Monday morning in Twins camp.

Plouffe sat out of team workouts Saturday and Sunday due to a mild illness. It wasn't a serious concern.

Jose Fernandez (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session on Sunday, the first time he's done so since undergoing Tommy John surgery last May.

The All-Star right-hander threw 15 pitches during the session, all fastballs. Fernandez estimated that his velocity was at about 50-55 percent and that everything felt "really, really normal". He'll repeat the process on Thursday, then will throw regularly on Mondays and Thursdays each week. He remains on track to rejoin the Marlins at some point in mid-to-late June.

Daniel Bard (shoulder) threw a successful bullpen session without issue on Sunday.

The 29-year-old hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the 2013 season, and hasn't been effective at any level since 2011. He's battling his way back from thoracic outlet surgery and plans on challenging for a spot in the Cubs bullpen.

Gavin Floyd (elbow) successfully made it through his first live batting practice session on Sunday without issue.

It's the first time that the veteran right-hander had faced a live hitter since sustaining his elbow injury in June. Floyd wound up throwing around 50 pitches including warm-ups and came away from the session feeling good. He'll repeat the exercise again on Wednesday.
