Cardinals optioned OF Randal Grichuk to High-A Palm Beach.

The move clears a spot for Jose Martinez's return from the disabled list. Grichuk has struggled with a .222/.276/.377 batting line across 46 games this season and the Cardinals want him to work on his strike zone discipline in the minors. Tommy Pham will get a chance at regular playing time, and deservedly so.

The Giants are expected to call up infielder-outfielder Orlando Calixte on Monday.

No official announcement yet from the team. Calixte, 25, was batting .287/.331/.507 with eight home runs, 26 RBI, and 11 steals over 41 games this season in Triple-A. He has experience between the infield and outfield and will serve in a utility role.

Greg Bird (ankle) was set to take live batting practice in Tampa on Monday.

The next step should be an official minor league rehab assignment. Bird has been sidelined since the start of May with a bone bruse in his ankle and was just 6-for-60 prior to hitting the disabled list. The Yankees might want him to receive extended at-bats in the minors before bringing him back.

Eric Thames has returned to the Brewers' lineup Monday against the Mets.

Thames, currently in a 3-for-34 funk, got the day off Sunday. He'll make the start in left field on Monday while Jesus Aguilar will draw a start at first base against Robert Gsellman. Hernan Perez is on the bench.
May 29 - 12:46 PM

Jandel Gustave (forearm) has resumed a throwing program.

Gustave was nearing a minor league rehab assignment prior to suffering a setback earlier this month, but now he's moving in the right direction. The 24-year-old allowed four hits (three earned) over five innings prior to landing on the DL with forearm tightness last month.
May 29 - 12:43 PM

Stephen Piscotty remains out of the Cardinals' lineup Monday.

Piscotty has been away from the team since Friday while tending to a personal matter. Jose Martinez will start in right field while Tommy Pham will hit second.
May 29 - 12:38 PM

Cardinals activated OF Jose Martinez from the 10-day disabled list.

Martinez will make the start in right field and bat eighth in his return. The 28-year-old went 4-for-12 (.333) with a homer and two doubles during a brief minor league rehab assignment. He returns to a .313/.353/.458 batting line.
May 29 - 12:35 PM

Hector Santiago is still on track to start Wednesday against the Astros.

Santiago threw 21 pitches (and allowed two homers) in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Rays, but he should be fine for his next scheduled start. The southpaw has a 4.31 ERA on the year and should be avoided in fantasy leagues for this matchup.
