J.J. Hardy indicated Saturday that his left shoulder was more sore than it was on Friday when he was removed from a Grapefruit League contest after sustaining the injury on a dive up the middle.

Hardy received treatment for the injury and will be held out of team workouts on Saturday. The injury is still believed to be minor and isn't expected to effect his availability for the start of the regular season.

Twins reassigned RHP Mark Hamburger to minor league camp.

The 28-year-old hurler was in camp as a non-roster invitee. He compiled a 5.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 10/2 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings, which just wasn't enough to earn a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. He should get a chance with the Twins at some point during the upcoming season.

Twins optioned OF Eddie Rosario to Triple-A Rochester.

The 23-year-old prospect hit .233/.227/.442 with a pair of homers and seven RBI in 43 spring at-bats. The Twins would prefer he play everyday at the Triple-A level to begin the season, but he should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2015 campaign.
Mar 28 - 8:49 AM

Twins manager Paul Molitor confirmed Saturday that Tommy Milone would open the season as the fifth starter in the team's rotation.

The 28-year-old southpaw struggled in his limited time with the Twins in 2014, though he owns a career 3.98 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 490 1/3 major league innings. He should be a decent backend option in AL-only formats.

Twins optioned RHP Trevor May to Triple-A Rochester.

The 25-year-old was in camp competing for a spot in the rotation, but the Twins would like him to show more consistency at the minor league level first. He pitched well in three Grapefruit League outings, posting a 4.22 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 9/2 K/BB ratio in 10 2/3 innings.

Will Middlebrooks continued his assault on Cactus League pitching on Friday, going 2-for-3 with an RBI in a 7-5 victory over the Rockies.

While manager Bud Black has yet to make a formal announcement, all signs indicate that Middlebrooks has won the starting job at third base over Yangervis Solarte. With the two-hit effort, he's hitting .341 (15-for-44) with two homers and eight RBI in spring play.

James Shields had a rough outing against the Rockies on Friday, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits over his 4 1/3 innings.

Big Game James punched out five on the evening and walked one. It was the roughest start of the spring for the 33-year-old hurler, who still sports a respectable 3.31 ERA and outstanding 21/5 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings. With his move to the National League and the pitcher-friendly confines of Petco Park, he has been a very popular commodity on fantasy draft boards this spring.
Mar 28 - 1:36 AM

Charlie Blackmon had a nice day at the plate in Friday's loss to the Padres, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.

Blackmon also drew a walk in the contest, reaching safely in three of his four plate appearances atop the order. The 28-year-old is hitting .290 (9-for-31) with a homer and three RBI. As long as he's hitting in the second slot of the Rockies lineup, he should once again provide plenty of mixed league value in 2015.
