Melvin Upton underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb and is expected to miss at least eight weeks.
Upton sustained the injury while playing for Triple-A Sacramento. He's now facing a lengthy rehab assignment and won't be an option for the Giants until the second half of the season. Fantasy owners in redraft leagues can safely cut bait if you have Upton stashed.
Mariners recalled RHP Chase De Jong from Triple-A Tacoma.
The 23-year-old replaces the struggling Daniel Altavilla in the Mariners' bullpen. De Jong struggled in his lone appearance this season, allowing three runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. He'll function in middle relief.
Mariners optioned RHP Daniel Altavilla to Triple-A Tacoma.
The 24-year-old really struggled in nine appearances with the Mariners, compiling a 7.36 ERA, 2.32 WHIP and 10/6 K/BB ratio in 7 1/3 innings. He'll try to get back on track at Triple-A and should get another chance with the M's later this season.
White Sox transferred OF Charlie Tilson to the 60-day disabled list.
Nothing has changed with the prognosis on the speedy outfielder, this was merely done as a procedural move to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Mike Pelfrey. Tilson has recently shed his walking boot as he continues to recover from a stress reaction in his right foot.
White Sox purchased the contract of RHP Mike Pelfrey from Triple-A Charlotte.
He'll take the spot of the injured James Shields in the White Sox rotation. Pelfrey registered a 5.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 119 innings with the Tigers in 2016 and isn't a recommended option in any fantasy format.
White Sox placed RHP James Shields on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right lat.
The veteran right-hander has pitched surprisingly well through his first three starts, compiling a 1.62 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 16/10 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings. It's unclear at the moment how much time he may miss with the injury. Mike Pelfrey was scratched from his start at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday and could be an option to replace Shields in the White Sox rotation.
Rajai Davis (hamstring) is not in the Athletics' starting lineup on Friday.
A's skipper Bob Melvin said that the speedy outfielder will need a couple of days before returning to the lineup. There's a chance that they could wind up placing him on the disabled list if he doesn't progress quickly. Jaff Decker is starting in his place and batting leadoff for the A's on Friday against the Mariners.
Garrett Richards (biceps) is progressing in his recovery but still hasn't been cleared to begin throwing.
The Angels are still attempting to determine the cause for the weakness in Richards' biceps and are going to take every precaution with their prized right-hander. There's currently no timetable for his potential return to the Halos.
