Kyle Farmer hit a pinch-hit go-ahead two-run double in the top of the ninth inning Tuesday as the Dodgers beat the Cubs 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader.

Cubs closer Brandon Morrow was apparently unavailable for this one and the Dodgers took advantage of a weaker crop of relievers to earn a big comeback victory at Wrigley Field. Farmer hit the double off left-hander Justin Wilson, after Austin Barnes drew a leadoff walk and Justin Turner roped a one-out single.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Mets placed OF Jay Bruce on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to June 18, with a hip injury.

Bruce had missed four of the Mets' last five games due to back and hip issues, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next nine days. The 31-year-old outfielder has batted just .212/.292/.321 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 236 plate appearances this season for New York. He's in the first year of a three-year, $39 million free agent deal.

Blue Jays recalled INF Lourdes Gurriel from Triple-A Buffalo.

He might only be up for a few days while Sam Gaviglio is away on paternity leave. Gurriel has batted just .206/.229/.309 through his first 70 plate appearances and is not yet a fantasy-relevant player.

Blue Jays placed RHP Sam Gaviglio on the paternity leave list.

Gaviglio should return to the team before his next scheduled start this weekend against the Angels. The 28-year-old right-hander holds a 3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 35/11 K/BB ratio in 36 innings (six starts, two relief appearances) this season with Toronto. It's possible he'll head back to the bullpen when Marcus Stroman comes off the disabled list.

Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) still hasn't resumed throwing.

Nationals manager Davey Martinez told reporters Tuesday that Strasburg is still in the strength-building phase of his rehab. The 29-year-old right-hander has been on the disabled list since June 10 with shoulder inflammation and there is currently no timetable for his return to the Nats' starting rotation. He seems unlikely to be ready before the All-Star break, unless he can ramp things up soon.
Jun 19 - 4:47 PM

Brandon Kintzler (forearm) has begun throwing on flat ground.

Kintzler was placed on the disabled list June 10 with a flexor strain in his right forearm. If everything goes smoothly with his rehab, he could return to the Nationals' bullpen sometime in early July.
Jun 19 - 4:44 PM

Rays activated OF Kevin Kiermaier from the 60-day disabled list.

Kiermaier is starting in center field and batting leadoff on Tuesday night against the Astros after missing a little over two months with a torn ligament in his right thumb. He went 7-for-17 (.412) with a triple and a double in five rehab games and can be plugged back into fantasy lineups immediately.
Jun 19 - 4:42 PM

Francisco Liriano (hamstring) will indeed be activated from the disabled list this weekend.

Liriano struggled mightily in a rehab start Sunday at Triple-A Toledo, yielding eight runs on 11 hits over four innings, but he had no issues with his hamstring and the Tigers will plug him back into their rotation either Friday or Saturday versus the Indians. The veteran left-hander had a 3.90 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 45/29 K/BB ratio over his first 57 innings (10 starts) this season with Detroit.
