Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 26th save on Friday, closing the door on the Nationals despite allowing two hits in the ninth.

While Papelbon might have made Philly fans nervous when he allowed back-to-back one out singles to Adam LaRoche and Ian Desmond, he bounced back to strike out Bryce Harper and new National Asdrubal Cabrera. Papelbon was tossed around in trade rumors but ultimately stayed put. The Phillies will roll with his 1.75 ERA going forward. He's now 26-for-28 in save opportunities.

Manny Machado went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Friday, leading the Orioles to a 2-1 victory over the Mariners in the opener of a three-game weekend series in Baltimore.

Machado plated Delmon Young with an RBI single off Roenis Elias to get the O's on the board in the third inning. He also scored the game-winning run on a J.J. Hardy single in the sixth inning. He's now hitting .269/.313/.427 with 11 homers and 28 RBI in 286 at-bats on the year.

Zach Britton slammed the door on the Mariners on Friday, needing just eight pitches to retire all three hitters he faced and protect a one-run advantage.

Britton netted his 22nd save of the season for his efforts. He has been outstanding at the backend of the Orioles bullpen, registering a 1.62 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 48/14 K/BB ratio over his 55 2/3 innings.
Aug 1 - 9:58 PM

Wei-Yin Chen delivered another impressive outing in Friday's victory over the Mariners, allowing just one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings of work.

The veteran left-hander punched out eight on the night while walking only one. The only blemish on his evening was an RBI double by Kendrys Morales in the fourth inning. Now 12-3 on the season, he'll head into Thursday's start against the Blue Jays in Toronto with a 3.76 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 90/21 K/BB ratio.

Robinson Cano reached base three times on Friday and scored the Mariners lone run in a loss to the Orioles

Cano finished the night 2-for-3 and also drew a walk, raising his season slash to an impressive .331/.392/.454. His power numbers have been down though in his first season with the Mariners, with just seven homers and 59 RBI on the season.
Aug 1 - 9:54 PM

Chris Denorfia struggled in his Mariners debut on Friday, going 0-for-4 in a losing effort against the Orioles.

Denorfia got the start in right field and hit sixth in the lineup against opposing southpaw Wei-Yin Chen. It's unclear at the moment just how often he'll be used in the M's lineup, but if he finds himself getting regular at-bats, he should be able to carve out mixed league fantasy value.
Aug 1 - 9:52 PM

Marlon Byrd went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 2-1 win over the Nationals.

Byrd, who was one of many notable untraded players on the Phillies, hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning off Doug Fister. It was his only hit of the game, but that run would end up being the difference, as neither team scored again. The bomb was Byrd's 21st and gave him his 63rd RBI on the year. He's slashing .271/.319/.481 on the year.
Aug 1 - 9:51 PM

Roenis Elias pitched well in a losing effort against the Orioles on Friday, surrendering two runs (one earned) on seven hits over his 5 2/3 innings.

Elias punched out seven on the evening while walking just one. Unfortunately for him, Wei-Yin Chen was a bit better on the other side of the diamond and held the Mariner bats in check. He'll bring a 4.19 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 117/46 K/BB ratio into Thursday's matchup against the White Sox.
