Jed Lowrie left Tuesday's game with a right foot contusion.

Lowrie was hit on the foot by a Yu Darvish pitch. It's not clear at this point if the ailment will cause him to miss additional time, but it's likely a day-to-day situation in all likelihood.

Josh Beckett (groin) threw on flat ground prior to Tuesday's game.

He did so without discomfort, something he was unable to do over the weekend. Beckett will throw off the mound soon before testing out his groin by running. The Dodgers haven't set a timetable for his return, but early June seems likely if all goes well.

Hanley Ramirez (hamstring) ran in the outfield prior to Tuesday's game.

It's the first time he's ran since a left hamstring strain forced him to the disabled list earlier this month. Ramirez is being brought along slowly, but it appears that he has a shot to return closer to the short end of his 4-6 week timetable.

Mike Leake held the Mets scoreless over seven innings in the Reds' 4-0 victory on Tuesday.

Leake has now made two consecutive starts without allowing a run, lowering his ERA to 3.25 in the process. There was some thought his spot in the rotation might be in danger with the return of Johnny Cueto, but Tony Cingrani being demoted was a vote of confidence in favor of the 25-year-old. His next start will come in an interleague matchup with the Indians on Monday.

Joey Votto extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single against the Mets on Tuesday.

Votto is 20-for-40 (.500) in the 10 games, raising his batting average to .353 on the season. Miguel Cabrera is getting the bulk of the attention nationally, but few hitters in the game are as locked in as Votto right now.

Jonathon Niese allowed three runs -- none earned -- through six innings in the Mets' loss to the Reds on Tuesday.

Niese has consecutive starts in his last two outings. The left-hander allowed five hits and three walks on the night, striking out seven. He hasn't fully turned the corner yet, but he's looking better than he did in his first two May starts. He'll start again on Monday against the Yankees.

Devin Mesoraco hit his second home run of the season and drove in two runs in the Reds' win over the Mets on Tuesday.

Mesoraco drove in his first run with a bases-loaded walk in the first inning, and he put the Reds out of reach for good with a solo homer in the ninth. The catcher is hitting just .234 and hasn't produced much, and he's likely to continue to split starts with Ryan Hanigan going forward.

When asked prior to Tuesday's game who his closer is, Dodgers manager Don Mattingly replied, "I don't know. We'll see."

Kenley Jansen seemed to be close to overtaking Brandon League for the job, but he then allowed two runs in back-to-back games over the weekend. Mattingly indicated that he'd like to use League in the role, saying he'd "really like to see the bullpen get its confidence back and some semblance of order and get the guys in the roles we designed." Jansen has out-pitched League all season until the last few days and is probably the favorite for the job over the long run. The situation is a headache for fantasy owners.
