Inclement weather has pushed the beginning of Shane Victorino's (hamstring) rehab assignment at Double-A Portland back to Wednesday or possibly Friday.

Portland's game Tuesday was rained out, and there's evidently more rain in the forecast for Wednesday. The Red Sox have considered sending Victorino to a club with a warmer climate, but they want to make sure sports medicine coordinator Dan Dyrek is able to supervise the outfielder's recovery. Victorino had been slated to return from the DL on Friday, but that could now conceivably be pushed back a bit.

Royals signed RHP Casey Coleman to a minor league contract.

Coleman had been released last week by the Cubs. The 26-year-old has plenty of big league experience but spent all of last season at the Triple-A level, posting a 3.16 ERA over 41 appearances. He's not a bad depth guy to have around.

Rays signed RHP Doug Mathis to a minor league contract.

Mathis had been released by the Rangers last week. The 30-year-old reliever will provide depth at Triple-A Durham.

Coco Crisp flew out as a pinch-hitter in Tuesday's win over the Angels.

Crisp has missed the last two starts with a hamstring issue, but it's a good sign that he felt well enough to pinch-hit. It's possible he'll be back in there Wednesday, though the A's could wait until after Thursday's off day.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia told the media after Tuesday's game that Kole Calhoun (ankle) is heading for the disabled list.

Calhoun will join Josh Hamilton on the shelf after painfully rolling his ankle running through first base in the 11st inning. "I just rolled it and it hurt real bad," said Calhoun, who was on crutches after the game. "It’s just a freak thing, you know?" We won't know Calhoun's timeline until he's further evaluated. The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser wondered on Twitter whether Los Angeles could target Sam Fuld, who was recently waived by the A's. Unless they bring somebody else in, Collin Cowgill is likely in line for more at-bats in the near future.

Brandon Belt continued his assault against NL pitching on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a walk, double and RBI against the Dodgers.

Belt's ninth-inning RBI double off Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen forced the game into extra innings. The 25-year-old native Texan looks poised to top last year's breakout campaign. He's batting .298/.322/.596 with five homers (third in the NL) and 10 RBI in 13 games.
Apr 16 - 3:24 AM

Juan Uribe finished 3-for-5 with a double, a solo homer and two runs scored in the Dodgers' victory over the Giants on Tuesday.

Coming off a surprisingly good 2013 season in which he accrued 4.1 WAR, Uribe is hitting the ball on the button right now. He's slashing .379/.379/.621 with two homers and eight doubles thus far. That slash line is going to plummet when this hot streak subsides, because he's ridden it despite a truly dreadful 14/0 K/BB rate.
Apr 16 - 3:22 AM

Kenley Jansen blew his second save of the season by coughing up Brandon Belt's RBI ninth inning double on Tuesday in a 3-2, 12-inning loss against the Giants.

Belt's slice down the left field line scored Angel Pagan from first. Jansen has allowed four runs over 7 1/3 innings (4.91 ERA) in the early going, and he's allowing way too many baserunners with a 2.05 WHIP, but his struggles won't continue. The fireballer owns a 14/3 K/BB rate and has whiffed at least one batter in all 10 of his appearances.
