Mike Bolsinger was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- in four innings by the Dodgers in his major league debut Saturday.

Bolsinger lacks major league-quality stuff, and he was only called up because the Diamondbacks are both panicking and too thrifty to go to Archie Bradley just yet. With the team still in a tailspin, it'd be no surprise to see Bolsinger jettisoned right away, with Trevor Cahill rejoining the rotation.

Craig Kimbrel gave up two earned runs and recorded only two outs Saturday against the Mets.

It was Kimbrel's first outing in a week -- he was dealing with mild shoulder soreness -- and he had to be pulled with one out to go in the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Walden entered to pick up the one-out save. For what it's worth, Kimbrel told reporters after the game that his shoulder felt fine and that he wanted to stay in the game.

Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer off Mike Bolsinger in the win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Ethier is hitting just .214 in 56 at-bats, but he's driven in 13 runs anyway. That he's sitting against lefties makes him a mediocre play in mixed leagues right now, but he should have more value as the year goes on.
Apr 19 - 11:16 PM

Cody Ross was the lone useless member of Arizona's lineup on Saturday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Diamondbacks.

Everyone else except Gerardo Parra had at least one hit, and Parra managed an RBI and a run scored. Ross shouldn't be starting against right-handers, and he certainly shouldn't be hitting ahead of Martin Prado and Mark Trumbo if he has to start against right-handers. He's 0-for-9 since coming off the DL.

Jordan Lyles limited the Phillies to one (unearned) run in seven innings Saturday in the Rockies' 3-1 win.

Lyles was sharp, scattering five hits and a walk over his seven innings. He struck out just two batters and owns an underwhelming 14/6 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings this season, but the other stats have been great. The 23-year-old will carry a 3-0 start, 3.04 ERA, and 1.14 WHIP into his next scheduled outing on the road against the Dodgers.
Apr 19 - 11:12 PM

Kyle Kendrick let in three earned runs in seven innings Saturday in a loss to the Rockies.

D.J. LeMahieu got to Kendrick for an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning and Justin Morneau took him deep for a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth. Kendrick is now 0-2 with a 3.60 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 25 innings (four starts) this season. A dangerous road matchup against the Dodgers is next.
Apr 19 - 11:08 PM

Ryan Hanigan slugged two home runs in the Rays' 16-1 thrashing of the Yankees on Saturday night.

Hanigan slugged a solo shot in the third inning and a two-run shot in the fourth before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and smacking a two-run single in the eighth. He finished the game with six RBI, and now has three home runs in 14 games with Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old had two homers in 75 games last year in Cincinnati and two homers in 112 games in 2012.
Apr 19 - 11:01 PM

Chris Archer tossed 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in the Rays' 16-1 win over the Yankees on Saturday.

It was a big bounceback outing from the 25-year-old right-hander, who was hammered for seven runs in five innings Monday by the Orioles. He stymied the Yankees offense to three hits and zero walks Saturday at Tropicana Field, striking out four batters. Archer will carry a 2-1 record, 3.65 ERA, and 1.22 WHIP into his next outing in Chicago against the White Sox.
