Titans coach Mike Munchak revealed Monday that Kendall Wright is dealing with injuries to both his ankle and shoulder.
Perhaps this explains why Wright's snaps were scaled back some in Sunday's loss to Denver, although the real drain on Wright's production was Broncos slot corner Chris Harris' shutdown coverage. Expect Wright to be in for a bounce-back game in Week 15 against a Cardinals defense that just lost primary slot defender Tyrann Mathieu to a season-ending knee injury.
Falcons coach Mike Smith revealed Monday that OC Dirk Koetter has "spoken" to Boise State about its head-coaching opening.
Koetter recently signed a contract extension, but there's no secret he's interested in becoming a head coach at some level. Boise State recently lost longtime HC Chris Petersen to the University of Washington, where he is succeeding new USC coach Steve Sarkisian. Koetter is very familiar with coaching out west. He was Boise State's offensive coordinator from 1998-2000.
Vikings placed TE Kyle Rudolph on injured reserve with a fractured left foot, ending his season.
The Vikings needed room to sign another tight end after John Carlson's Week 14 concussion. Rudolph, who just turned 24, hadn't played since Week 9. His third NFL season ends with 30 catches for 313 yards and three touchdowns. Although Rudolph doesn't run the seam quite as well, he's flashed Gronkian ability as a red-zone target, catching 12 TDs over his last 23 games. He'll resurface as a potential TE1 in 2014 if and only if the Vikings upgrade at quarterback.
Cardinals FS Tyrann Mathieu will undergo surgery to repair his torn left ACL and LCL on Tuesday, December 17.
We like to keep track of surgery dates for bookkeeping purposes. Coach Bruce Arians told reporters Monday that Mathieu is considered doubtful to participate in 2014 training camp, primarily because the LCL pushes back the ACL recovery. Rashad Johnson will take over at free safety. The Cards may turn to Jerraud Powers at slot corner, with Antoine Cason bookending Patrick Peterson.
The Broncos benched MLB Wesley Woodyard in their Week 14 win over Tennessee.
The Denver Post observes that Woodyard "hasn't been the same" since suffering a stinger in the Broncos' Week 5 game against Dallas. He was replaced by Paris Lenon against the Titans. Pro Football Focus has given Woodyard negative grades across the board after a strong 2012 campaign. Woodyard is in a contract year.
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier confirmed John Carlson suffered a concussion in Sunday's Week 14 loss to Baltimore.
Kyle Rudolph's recovery from a fractured foot has progressed more slowly than hoped, so the Vikings are paper thin at tight end. Carlson had two catches for 19 yards before departing Sunday. His Week 15 status is up in the air.
Vikings left WR Greg Childs (knee surgeries) on the PUP list, ending his season.
Childs never made enough progress from double patellar tendon tears to return and contribute in 2013. A 2012 fourth-round pick, Childs has yet to appear in an NFL game. He lacks fantasy value even in the deepest Dynasty leagues.
Joe Flacco acknowledged after Sunday's win over Minnesota that having Dennis Pitta back "means a lot" for Baltimore's passing attack.
Flacco has completed 75 percent of his red-zone passes to Pitta the past two seasons. He's at 44.6 percent to all other Ravens. "Obviously, he’s going to get better and better as the weeks go on," Flacco said. "He’s a huge player for us. He knows how to get open, he knows how to run routes, and he catches the football. He means a lot." Pitta will be a TE1 in Week 15 at Detroit.
