Paul Goldschmidt went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss to the Pirates.

Even Earth's mightiest heroes sometimes flail in futility against A.J. Burnett. Twas the case with Goldschmidt, who came into the game slashing .298/.420/.596, with five home runs, 16 RBI and 11 runs scored. None of that mattered on Saturday. When you see guys like Goldschmidt or Mike Trout take the collar, your best response is to shrug and wait for the day. If he stays healthy (he played in just 109 games in 2014), he's on his way to a monster season.

Matt Kemp was ejected from Saturday's game against the Dodgers for arguing a called strike.

Kemp had a very productive night before his ejection, finishing with two hits and a stolen base. Wil Myers will take over in right field with Alexi Amarista moving from shortstop to center field. David Ortiz got suspended for arguing with an umpire last week but we don't expect any further punishment for Kemp.

Mark Melancon walked one and allowed a hit in Saturday's contest with the Diamondbacks, but did not allow a run in picking up his fifth save of the season.

It was a less than clean outing for Melancon, though despite the struggles, he still picked up the save for the third straight game. Even with the string of saves, we would stay far, far away from Melancon in mixed leagues. He's allowed six runs in 9 1/3 innings pitched and his diminished velocity doesn't portend things getting much better.

Rubby De La Rosa struck out eight and allowed just one run over seven innings in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates.

De La Rosa and A.J. Burnett were locked in an old school pitcher's duel, with both pitchers hurling seven innings of one-run ball and neither factoring into the decision. De La Rosa's struck out eight and did not walk a batter in the game. He allowed just four hits, with only an RBI double by Pedro Alvarez doing any damage. De La Rosa will take his 4.68 ERA and 25/5 K/BB ratio on the road against the Dodgers in his next start.
Apr 25 - 11:18 PM

A.J. Burnett pitched well on Saturday, allowing just one run on five hits against the Diamondbacks.

Rubby De La Rosa matched him every step of the way, though, and neither pitcher ended up with a decision in the 2-1 Pirates win. Burnett struck out four and walked two in the contest. The former flamethrower has been great through four starts and currently holds a 1.80 ERA and 1.24 WHIP, with a 18/7 K/BB ratio over 25 innings. Despite the solid start, he has yet to pick up his first win of the year. He'll try for it (again) when the Pirates face off with the Cardinals.

Adam Wainwright acknowledged after Saturday's game that the injury is to the back of his left ankle.

In other words, it's his Achilles tendon. And if he ruptured it, the ace right-hander could be done for the rest of the 2015 season. "I thought I got hit by something," said Wainwright, who pulled up lame after a fifth-inning pop-out on Saturday night in Milwaukee. "If you look at the replay, I get out of the box and I looked back to think the catcher’s mask must of hit me or the bat must’ve hit me, something must’ve hit me."
Apr 25 - 11:08 PM

Brandon McCarthy left Saturday's game against the Padres with an undisclosed injury.

McCarthy exited after giving up a three-run shot to Justin Upton in the sixth inning. He motioned for the trainer immediately after serving up the home run pitch, but it was unclear what exactly was bothering him. Sergio Santos entered the game in relief. Until we know more, consider McCarthy day-to-day.
Apr 25 - 11:05 PM

Trevor Bauer will start Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Food poisoning forced him to miss Saturday's start. Bauer has looked sharp all year, limiting opponents to a .125 batting average. The 24-year-old has collected at least seven strikeouts in each of his three starts.
