Tigers left-handed pitching prospect Robbie Ray continues to dominate Triple-A hitters as he posted 8 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday, striking out seven while allowing four hits (all singles) and one walk.

Ray has a sparkling 1.93 ERA and 1.071 WHIP for the season, and hitters are managing a weak .235/.278/.294 line off him for the season. He is only averaging 6.2 K/9 from the season, down from his 9.0 K/9 career average. There are no openings in the starting rotation in Detroit, but he will likely be the first one called up if they need a spot start.

Twins right-handed pitching prospect Alex Meyer struck out 11 while throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings on Wednesday, while allowing three hits (all singles) and three walks.

Meyer has a 3.48 ERA on the season, which, coupled with his 10.5 K/9 and 1.210 WHIP, make him a likely candidate for promotion to Minnesota. Kyle Gibson is the only Twins pitcher with an ERA below 5, and the team's ERA is 4.86. It is not apparent what Meyer needs to do to get called up, but he should be up by the middle of the season at the latest.

A.J. Pollock (neck) is out of the Diamondbacks' starting lineup again on Thursday versus the Cubs.

Pollock was able to serve as a pinch-runner on Wednesday, but he still doesn't feel well enough to start. He wound up riding the pine for the Diamondbacks' entire four-game series at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Diamondbacks recalled OF Roger Kieschnick from Triple-A Reno.

Kieschnick got claimed off waivers from the Giants at the end of spring training and was batting .281/.343/.531 with three home runs and eight RBI in 18 games this season at the Triple-A level. He probably won't play regularly enough to carry fantasy relevance.

Diamondbacks placed OF Mark Trumbo on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Trumbo was diagnosed with the injury on Wednesday in Chicago and flew back to Phoenix, Arizona for a range of tests to determine the severity. He missed almost six months with a stress fracture in his right foot in 2011, but he told reporters that this one doesn't feel as bad. Cody Ross stands to get a significant boost in playing time.

Adam Eaton (hamstring) could return Friday.

Eaton is again out of the White Sox lineup on Thursday with a mild strain of his left hamstring, but he tried to talk manager Robin Ventura into starting him -- which is obviously a good sign. The dynamic 25-year-old outfielder is batting .282/.373/.394 with one home run and one stolen base in 18 games this season.
Apr 24 - 11:14 AM

Justin Ruggiano was diagnosed Thursday morning with a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring.

That carries a best-case recovery timetable of 3-4 weeks. Ruggiano suffered the severe hamstring strain Wednesday while attempting to track down a fly ball along the treacherous right-field line at Wrigley Field. He was placed on the disabled list on Thursday.

Russell Martin is out of the Pirates' starting lineup for a second straight game Thursday.

Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says Martin walked off the field "gingerly" after a slide into home plate on Monday, so he could be dealing with some sort of leg injury. Martin might want to go ahead and drop his one-game suspension appeal.
