Ubaldo Jimenez lasted only four innings, allowing three runs, in a loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

The Mets made Jimenez throw 85 pitches over four innings, prompting manager Buck Showalter to double-switch him out of the game to start the fifth. Jimenez allowed six hits and two walks while striking out one in the outing. He had been shockingly effective in four starts entering Wednesday's outing, and he still owns a terrific 2.36 ERA with a 0.98 WHIP. The right-hander will have to face the Blue Jays at home next.

Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases, but the Orioles fell to the Mets on Wednesday.

Machado stole second base twice off of starter Jacob deGrom and catcher Kevin Plawecki, but the Orioles couldn't bring him home. The shortstop is batting a productive .261/.333/.477 with five home runs, 13 RBI, and five stolen bases in as many attempts on the year.

Astros placed OF George Springer on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Springer ran into the outfield wall in Tuesday's game and was being tested for concussion symptoms after the contest. The Astros are expected to promote Preston Tucker to take Springer's roster spot. Concussions are notoriously touchy, so it's unclear how long Springer might be sidelined.

Curtis Granderson went 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly and a solo home run in Wednesday's win over the Orioles.

Granderson pushed the Mets' lead to 2-0 with a third-inning solo home run off of Ubaldo Jimenez. He made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. Though he has been drawing plenty of walks, Granderson otherwise hasn't done much at the plate this season, batting .239/.360/.359 with two home runs and eight RBI.
May 6 - 10:15 PM

Dilson Herrera went 3-for-3 with an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Mets topped the Orioles on Wednesday.

Herrera entered the night with one hit (a single) in 14 plate appearances since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas. He started the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning, then provided insurance with a two-run home run off of Brad Brach in the sixth. Herrera had been hitting well in the minors; the Mets are hoping some of that eventually translates while he's up in the majors.

Russell Martin homered in a fourth straight start Wednesday as the Blue Jays beat the Yankees 5-1.

Martin finished up 3-for-4. He spent almost the entirety of April below the Mendoza Line, but he's gone 12-for-19 over the last five days to raise his average from .185 to .284.

Jordan Lyles lost the second game of Wednesday's double-header, allowing the Diamondbacks to score four times in seven innings as the Rockies went on to lose 5-1.

Lyles was effective through four innings, allowing only one run, but the Diamondbacks got to him in the fifth to plate three runs. David Peralta knocked in a pair of runs with a double, and Paul Goldschmidt followed up with an RBI single to score Peralta. Overall, he gave up nine hits and a walk while striking out six. Lyles has had middling results through six starts so far, sporting a 4.42 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and a 21/17 K/BB ratio in 36 2/3 innings. He'll face the Angels on the road in his next outing.
May 6 - 10:08 PM

Mark Buehrle held the Yankees to one run in five innings Wednesday to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Buehrle is sporting a 6.00 ERA after six starts, but he actually has been pretty effective in his wins, giving up nine runs over 23 innings. It's the two losses, in which he allowed 13 runs and 24 hits over 10 innings, that were terribly ugly. He'll get the Orioles next. Of course, he's just an AL-only starter these days.
