David Freese was ejected from Monday's game against the Braves for arguing a called third strike in the fourth inning.

His manager, Clint Hurdle, was also given the gate for arguing the same call. Freese finished the night 0-for-2.

Clint Hurdle was ejected from Monday's game against the Braves for arguing balls and strikes.

Hurdle took exception to a called third strike on David Freese and vehemently voiced that opinion to the home plate umpire. He'll catch the rest of Monday's action from he clubhouse.

Carlos Carrasco (pectoral) will start Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Carrasco exited his last outing with tightness in his left pectoral area, but he threw his between-starts bullpen session with no issues. "He's in a really good spot," Indians pitching coach Mikey Callaway said. "He feels great. His bullpen was outstanding the other day. We're going to lean on him a lot the rest of the season, so a couple extra days doesn't really hurt if you can get them."

Corey Kluber (back) has officially been cleared to begin a rehab assignment on Thursday at Triple-A Columbus.

Kluber got the go-ahead after completing a bullpen session Monday. He's slated to throw 70-75 pitches for Columbus before rejoining the Indians' rotation next week if all goes well. "We don't want this recurring," pitching coach Mickey Callaway said. "We need our ace out there every day, and we think we went with the right approach." Mike Clevinger has been filling in for Kluber and doing a great job with a 1.56 ERA.

Phillies second base prospect Jesmuel Valentin needs season-ending surgery to repair a separated shoulder.

Valentin suffered the injury last week. The 23-year-old batted a disappointing .229/.282/.292 in his first 104 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Adonis Garcia (Achilles) did some running without issues on Monday.

The infielder could be ready for activation when first eligible on Friday. Garcia has been out with tendinitis in his Achilles.
May 22 - 7:10 PM

Nate Jones (elbow) appeared in a simulated game Monday.

Jones has been on the shelf for nearly three weeks with right elbow neuritis. It's not clear whether he'll require a rehab assignment before being activated, but it doesn't look like the veteran reliever is far off from a return.
May 22 - 7:09 PM

A.J. Pollock (groin) has begun doing some light jogging.

Pollock is making some nice progress, but he obviously won't be ready for activation from the disabled list when first eligible on Thursday. The outfielder is working his way back from a Grade 1 right groin strain.
