Carlos Santana launched a two-run homer Friday against the Blue Jays.

It was his first of the season. Santana came into Friday's action in a 1-for-27 funk and has been nursing a sore left groin, so hopefully the home run is a sign of brighter days ahead.

Martin Perez was terrific in his first career shutout on Friday, scattering just three hits and striking out nine against the White Sox.

Perez needed just 109 pitches to complete his masterpiece. The 23-year-old southpaw has been dominant through his first four starts, compiling a 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 20/7 K/BB ratio in 29 innings. He'll look to extend that success when he takes on the Athletics in Oakland on Wednesday.

Alejandro De Aza went hitless again in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

He finished the night 0-for-3 with a strikeout and is now hitting a paltry .167/.196/.352 on the season. If he continues to struggle, Jordan Danks could start stealing playing time away from him in the White Sox outfield.
Apr 18 - 11:10 PM

Marcus Semien continued his recent struggles in Friday's loss to the Rangers, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

As a team, the White Sox managed just three hits off Martin Perez who was brilliant. Semien's run of usefulness may be coming to an end now that Gordon Beckham is nearing a return. He's hitting just .197/.260/.310 with two homers, five RBI and two stolen bases in 71 at-bats.
Apr 18 - 11:07 PM

Felipe Paulino was obliterated in Friday’s loss to the Rangers, getting pounded for 10 runs on 13 hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.

With an already depleted bullpen, manager Robin Ventura tried to leave Paulino in there to take his medicine and eat some innings, but he simply couldn’t get hitters out. With an 11.29 ERA and 2.56 WHIP through his first 18 1/3, it’d be shocking if he wasn’t demoted to the bullpen after this debacle.

Howie Kendrick homered twice and drove home four runs, leading the Angels to an 11-6 win over the Tigers on Friday.

Serving as the team's DH and hitting in the cleanup spot seemed to come naturally to Kendrick. He tagged starter Drew Smyly with an opposite field two-run shot in the third inning, then blasted another off Luke Putkonen the following inning. He finished the night 3-for-5 and is now hitting .261/.320/.391 on the season.
Apr 18 - 11:01 PM

Albert Pujols continued his march toward the 500 home run club, launching his 497th career long ball in Friday's win over the Tigers in Detroit.

He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. He has looked somewhat like the Pujols of old in April, hitting .279/.347/.574 with five homers and 13 RBI. As long as he can manage to stay healthy, it looks as if he'll be incredibly productive hitting behind Mike Trout in the middle of the Angels lineup.
Apr 18 - 10:57 PM

Jered Weaver turned in his best start of the 2014 season, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings in Friday’s victory over the Tigers.

Weaver walked three and struck out three on the night. Even with his velocity down, he was able to keep Tigers hitters off-balance which led to weak contact throughout the game. He now sports a 4.76 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20/10 K/BB ratio through 24 2/3 innings on the season. He’ll look to replicate this outing when he does battle against the Nationals in Washington on Wednesday.
