Astros placed LHP Brett Oberholtzer (back) on the 15-day DL.

Oberholtzer's lat soreness has set him back significantly. He entered March as a contender for a rotation spot, but ends it on the disabled list. He is scheduled to pitch in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game and has been throwing bullpen sessions. When healthy, he's slated to be the Astros fourth starter. He'll be replaced in the rotation by Asher Wojciechowski.

According to ESPN.com's Jim Bowden, the Mets have signed OF Juan Lagares to a four-year contract extension.

Bowden writes that the deal is expected to be worth more than $20 million and will include a club option. Already a legitimate defender, Lagares has slashed his way to a .345/.400/.655 line this spring. Don't expect him to hit like that for an extended amount of time. At age 26 and coming off a .281/.321/.382 line over 452 plate appearances in 2014, it's possible that he'll carry over at least some of his spring power, though, making him an an interesting name to keep in mind late in mixed drafts.

Josh Fields (groin) indicated that he's close to returning from injury.

"I feel like things have been coming along pretty good," Fields said. Fields is likely to begin the season on the disabled list and has not thrown off the mound in the last week. He suffered the right groin strain in a Grapefruit League game on March 23. Despite the pitcher's confidence, there's still no timetable for his return.

Twins optioned LHP Caleb Thielbar to Triple-A Rochester.

Thielbar was knocked around for 19 hits and eight runs (seven earned) in 11 spring innings. He's better than those numbers, though, putting up a 2.59 ERA with a 74/30 K/BB in 94 innings over the last two seasons. If the team needs an extra lefty in the bullpen at some point, they could do a lot worse. As of now, Brian Duensing is the only left-hander in their bullpen outside of closer Glen Perkins.

Alex Colome (illness) will throw live BP on Friday.

Colome is working his way back from pneumonia, which has sidelined him for most of the spring. He's making steady progress and remains on track for a mid-April return.
Apr 1 - 9:33 AM

Oswaldo Arcia (illness) will miss Wednesday's game.

There's nothing serious here. The 24-year-old offers the Twins a power bat, slugging 20 homers in just 103 games last season, and marginal defense.
Apr 1 - 9:29 AM

Astros designated OF Alex Presley for assignment.

The Astros would reportedly like to hang on to Presley, who can play all three outfield spots and offers flexibility, but it's possible that they attempt to trade him. While his bat is no great shakes (.244/.281/.346 last season), he's has value as a major league bench piece.
Apr 1 - 9:23 AM

Orioles released OF Matt Tuiasosopo.

Tuiasosopo had been reassigned to minor league camp on March 15. The team granted him his release to look for other Triple-A options. Tuiasosopo spent 2014 at the Triple-A level, batting .240/.357/.379 with 13 homers and 50 RBI over 122 games between the White Sox and Blue Jays' systems.
