The Miami Herald reports DE Dion Jordan will not be immediately reinstated once the NFL and NFLPA agree to a new drug policy.

Currently two games through a four-game suspension, Jordan had been reported as a player who would have his ban reduced. It suggests that, unlike Wes Welker and Cowboys CB Orlando Scandrick, Jordan's positive PED test was not triggered by an amphetamine. Barring reinstatement, Jordan will be eligible to return in Week 6.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Lions are "kicking around idea of new kicker," and have worked out free agents Rob Bironas, Alex Henery and Garrett Hartley.

Seventh-round rookie Nate Freese is just two for his first five on field goals, and on extremely thin ice. Arguably any of the three veterans the Lions worked out would be an improvement.

Bears released WR Chris Williams.

WR Rashad Ross has been promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move.

Falcons LT Jake Matthews (ankle) was upgraded to "full" in Tuesday's practice.

Matthews is now on track to return for Thursday's game against the Bucs. It would be a huge relief for a Falcons team that sported arguably the worst tackle duo in the league (Gabe Carimi and Lamar Holmes) for Sunday's loss to the Bengals. It's possible Carimi will take over for Holmes on the right side.

Colts waived RB Dion Lewis.

DT Kelcy Quarles has been plucked off the Patriots' practice squad in a corresponding roster move. Lewis looked like he might get some playing time when the Colts signed him on September 9, but they're apparently satisfied with Boom Herron behind Trent Richardson and Ahmad Bradshaw. Under-sized at 5-foot-8, 195 pounds, Lewis owns a career 4.8 YPC through 36 carries.

49ers TE Vance McDonald is day to day with a knee injury.

McDonald played through the injury against the Bears, but ended up undergoing X-rays and an MRI, both of which came back negative. McDonald's health has taken on extra importance this week, as Vernon Davis is battling an ankle injury. Derek Carrier is the next man up on the depth chart.

Speaking after Tuesday's practice, Falcons coach Mike Smith "indicated" Roddy White (hamstring) will play in Thursday's game against the Bucs.

White missed Monday and Tuesday's practices, but it appears the Falcons are just trying to manage his reps on a short week. That being said, it's possible he could end up a game-time decision on Thursday. After struggling through an injury-plagued 2013, White has started out 2014 with a variety of nicks and bruises. With his status still up in the air, White should be considered a mid-range WR2 for Week 3.

Bengals placed TE Alex Smith on injured reserve with a biceps injury, ending his season.

A veteran blocker, Smith sustained the injury in Sunday's win. Now 32, Smith won't be guaranteed to find work in 2015.
