Matt Carpenter (quad) went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored in the Cardinals' win over the Rockies on Tuesday.

Carpenter sat out Monday's series opener versus Colorado with some minor quad tightness, but he played a full nine inning of first base Tuesday with no apparent issues. His run scored came on a Paul DeJong two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Carpenter had singled to shallow left to lead off the frame.

Wilson Ramos (head) grounded out as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday night against the Orioles.

It's miraculous that Ramos was even available in this one given that he needed six staples on his head Monday after getting struck with a shattered bat. The tough 29-year-old could play a full nine innings in Wednesday's series finale versus Baltimore.

The Boston Red Sox are expected to place Ben Taylor on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury.

The move will be retroactive to Sunday, although the exact nature of his injury is unclear. Blaine Boyer (elbow) is coming back from the DL and will take Taylor's place in the 'pen.
Jul 26 - 5:27 AM

Blaine Boyer (elbow) is expected to come off the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday.

The Red Sox designated Luis Ysla for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for the reliever.

Mike Zunino swatted his 15th home run of the season in Tuesday's win against the Red Sox while also drawing a pair of walks.

The walks might have been more impressive than the solo homer, as he had managed just 18 free passes over his first 72 games. He is a solid source of power from the catcher position, but be ready for a subpar average and plenty of strikeouts, too.
Jul 26 - 5:20 AM

Guillermo Heredia finished 3-for-6 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Heredia is enjoying his best stretch of the season, hitting safely in three in a row while piling up six RBI during the span. He had managed just 13 RBI over his first 73 outings.
Jul 26 - 5:16 AM

Felix Hernandez allowed four earned runs, four hits and two walks with four strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Red Sox.

King Felix has had a problem with Sox since his return from the 10-day disabled list. He pitched just five innings in Chicago on July 15, and 5 2/3 against Boston on Tuesday. He has lasted at least six innings in his other five outings against all other teams since coming off the DL. Hernandez will look to go deeper into the game in his next scheduled start Monday in Texas.
Jul 26 - 5:13 AM

Hanley Ramirez finished 2-for-6 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's game in Seattle.

The 2-3-4 hitters for the Red Sox each collected two hits, the only Boston players to post multi-hit games in a 13-inning loss. Ramirez's homer was even more impressive considering it came against fireballer Felix Hernandez. He is enjoying a nice road trip, hitting safely in all five games on the west coast trip with a pair of homers and three RBI.
