49ers GM John Lynch wouldn't commit to the 49ers starting Jimmy Garoppolo against the Seahawks in Week 12.

Lynch said that decision will be made by head coach Kyle Shanahan, though Garoppolo certainly doesn't seem like a lock to start, even after getting the bye week to familiarize himself with the team's playbook. "You guys obviously know what we think of Jimmy in terms of why we brought him here," said Lynch. "But we also think highly of C.J. [Beathard], enough to trade up to the third round to get him." Beathard is coming off his best game of the season against the Giants, though Garoppolo remains San Francisco's quarterback of the future. We'd still bet on Garoppolo starting at some point this year, but it may not happen for another week or two.

Mike Williams (knee) remained limited at Tuesday's practice.

Williams should be fine for Thursday's Thanksgiving game in Dallas. The rookie set career-highs with five catches and 38 yards in Week 11. He's still looking for his first career touchdown.

Seahawks waived DE Dwight Freeney.

Signed in late October, the 16-year veteran lasted four games in Seattle. Freeney tallied three sacks as a situational pass rusher, so it's a bit surprising he's being cut loose. 2017 is the longtime Colt's age-37 season. It's possible he gets a look elsewhere. Despite being a vested veteran, Freeney must go through waivers since it's after the trade deadline.

Patriots waived DE Cassius Marsh.

DE Eric Lee was signed in a corresponding roster move. Acquired from the Seahawks before Week 1, Marsh played 266 snaps over nine games, making one start. He tallied one sack. The No. 108 overall pick of the 2014 draft by the Seahawks, Marsh turned 25 in July.

Raiders promoted assistant head coach John Pagano to defensive coordinator.

He's taking over for Ken Norton Jr., who was fired on Tuesday. It's not a stretch to say the Raiders have been historically ineffective on defense this season, generating zero interceptions through 10 games while allowing opposing quarterbacks to post a 113.3 QB rating. They are tied for last in the league in sacks (14). Personnel is the main issue, but a fresh perspective on the scheme certainly couldn't hurt at this point. Chuck's brother, John was the Chargers' defensive boss from 2012-16.

Raiders fired DC Ken Norton Jr.

In many ways, Norton is the scapegoat for an underachieving team, but his firing is also completely justifiable. The Raiders have a league-low six takeaways, including an historic zero interceptions. No team has ever gone this late in the year without picking off a pass. Despite having reigning Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack up front, the Raiders are tied with the Giants for the fewest sacks (14). Opposing passers are posting a 113.3 QB rating when they face the Raiders. Something had to change. Ex-Chargers DC John Pagano is taking over.

Texans claimed RB Andre Ellington off waivers from the Cardinals.

The Texans needed help at running back after D'Onta Foreman (Achilles') was lost for the season. Averaging a healthy nine yards on 33 receptions, it remains surprising that Ellington was cut loose by the Cardinals. He should see immediate playing time for the Texans, and will help keep plodder Alfred Blue off the field behind Lamar Miller. What Ellington is unlikely to do is provide legitimate PPR value in the Texans' Tom Savage-led offense.

Falcons waived CB Jalen Collins.

Collins was set to be activated from a 10-game PED ban, his second steroid suspension. Instead, the Falcons are moving on from the No. 42 overall pick of the 2015 draft. Still only 24, Collins played well down the stretch in 2016. Collins may clear waivers so teams don't have to pick up his contract, but he will undoubtedly get another chance.
