Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Cubs could have interest in acquiring Rene Rivera from the Mets.

The Cubs recently cut ties with Miguel Montero after he threw his teammates under the bus, so Rivera would give the club a veteran option to back up Willson Contreras. Victor Caratini is currently filling the backup role. Rivera, 33, is batting .245/.291/.395 with six homers and 20 RBI over 46 games this season.

Trevor Cahill will make his Royals debut on Saturday against the Red Sox.

Cahill was acquired from the Padres on Monday as part of a six-player deal. The resurgent 29-year-old has posted a 3.69 ERA and 72/24 K/BB ratio in 61 innings over 11 starts this season while also missing time with a shoulder injury. It's a tough first matchup, but the Royals are hoping he can be a stabilizing force for their rotation down the stretch.

Indians optioned LHP Tyler Olson to Triple-A Columbus.

The move clears a spot for Austin Jackson's return from the disabled list. Olson made two appearances during his brief stint with the big club.
Jul 25 - 2:55 PM

Indians activated OF Austin Jackson from the 10-day disabled list.

Jackson ended up missing about a month with a left quad strain. He returns to a .304/.383/.500 batting line over 37 games.
Jul 25 - 2:53 PM

Brad Ziegler (back) allowed an unearned run over one inning of work Tuesday in his first minor league rehab appearance with the GCL Marlins.

Ziegler, out for over a month with a back strain, allowed two hits and walked one while striking out a pair. The veteran reliever should rejoin the Marlins in the next few days. Ziegler owns a disappointing 6.52 ERA over 34 appearances this season.
Jul 25 - 2:50 PM

Royals optioned RHP Jake Junis to Triple-A Omaha.

Junis gets the boot with the recently-acquired Brandon Maurer and Ryan Buchter added to the active roster. The 24-year-old owns a 5.50 ERA over nine appearances (including six starts) this season.
Jul 25 - 2:46 PM

Blue Jays sent LHP Jeff Beliveau outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Beliveau cleared waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 30-year-old owns a 7.47 ERA in 15 2/3 innings with the Jays this year and will serve as relief depth in the minors.
Jul 25 - 1:54 PM

Willson Contreras is expected to get the day off Wednesday.

Contreras is starting his fifth straight game Tuesday, so he could use the breather. Victor Caratini will fill in and catch Jake Arrieta.
