Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run, and three runs scored as the Braves trampled the Phillies on Tuesday.

Freeman gave the Braves an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the first inning off of Chad Billingsley. It was a cakewalk for the Braves from there. Freeman hadn't homered since April 18 but has otherwise hit well. He has five home runs, 14 RBI, and a .301/.363/.534 battling line.

Chad Billingsley, making his first major league start since April 15, 2013, struggled in a loss to the Braves, allowing six runs (five earned) in five innings of work.

The struggles aren't unexpected given Billingsley's long road back to the majors following multiple elbow issues. The Braves scored twice in the first inning on Freddie Freeman's two-run home run and four times in the fourth following Cody Asche's fielding error and a three-run Kelly Johnson home run. Overall, Billingsley surrendered eight hits and a walk while striking out two. He'll try again in start number two next week at home against the Pirates. We don't recommend giving him room on your fantasy roster.

Shelby Miller needed only 99 pitches to wrap up a shutout against the Phillies on Tuesday, improving his record to 4-1.

Sure, it was against the Phillies, but a 99-pitch shutout is always impressive. Miller held the Phillies to three hits and a walk while fanning eight. Miller, acquired from the Cardinals in the Jason Heyward trade last November, has done a terrific job in six starts for the Braves, sporting a 1.66 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a 31/13 K/BB ratio in 38 innings. He'll toe the rubber in Cincinnati against the Reds next.
May 5 - 9:51 PM

Jeurys Familia earned his 11th save of the season despite allowing a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-2 win against the Orioles.

Familia gave up a leadoff solo home run to Chris Davis to cut the Mets' lead to 3-2, but he got a strikeout from Delmon Young, a fly out from Caleb Joseph, and a ground out from Travis Snider to end the contest. Familia is now 11-for-11 in save opportunities with a 1.88 ERA, 0.56 WHIP, and a 17/3 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings. The Mets couldn't have asked for much more in a pinch after losing Jenrry Mejia.
May 5 - 9:46 PM

Chris Davis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.

Davis led off the top of the ninth with the Orioles down two runs, facing closer Jeurys Familia. He belted a solo home run to the opposite field to cut the Mets' lead in half, but it wasn't enough. Davis has quietly racked up six home runs and 18 RBI with a .274/.344/.548 triple-slash line.
May 5 - 9:43 PM

Manny Machado hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to prevent the Orioles from getting shut out in Tuesday's loss against the Mets.

Machado, who went 1-for-4, ruined Bartolo Colon's run at a shutout, delivering a one-out solo shot to left-center. The blast is the third baseman's fifth of the season and his 13th run batted in. He's batting .250/.327/.476.
May 5 - 9:40 PM

Bud Norris had a decent start on Tuesday, allowing three runs in seven innings, but took the loss against the Mets.

All three runs came in the fourth inning when Daniel Murphy singled in a run and Kevin Plawecki doubled in another two. Norris allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out four. Norris badly needed Tuesday's outing, as it lowered his ERA to a still-ugly 9.75 with a 1.75 WHIP and a 16/10 K/BB ratio in 24 innings over five starts. He'll look for more positive results his next time out, which will come against the Yankees in the Bronx.
May 5 - 9:38 PM

Bartolo Colon pitched effectively into the eighth inning, earning his fifth win of the season to help the Mets take down the Orioles on Tuesday.

Colon was working on a shutout until Manny Machado lifted a solo home run to left-center with one out in the eighth inning. He got one more out, then was taken out of the game. The right-hander scattered six hits in total while issuing no walks and striking out nine. The 41-year-old has been in top form through six starts, sporting a terrific 2.90 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and a 36/1 K/BB ratio in 40 1/3 innings. Colon will go for win number six at Wrigley Field against the Cubs next.
