Royals recalled RHP Louis Coleman from Triple-A Omaha.

He'll replace Kelvin Herrera on the active roster. Coleman, 27, had an excellent 1.03 ERA and 30/9 K/BB ratio over 26 1/3 innings in Triple-A this season and could work his way into the late innings.

Royals optioned RHP Kelvin Herrera to Triple-A Omaha.

It wasn't too long ago that Herrera was threatening Greg Holland for the closer role, but he has struggled to keep the ball in the ballpark this season, surrendering eight home runs in just 20 1/3 innings. He'll attempt to straighten things out in the minors.

Joba Chamberlain (oblique) is scheduled to throw two inning Saturday in extended spring training.

Chamberlain pitched a scoreless inning for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over a week ago, but the Yankees didn't think he was ready yet. However, if all goes well, there's a chance he could be activated late next week. The 27-year-old has been sidelined since April 27 with a strained oblique.
May 23 - 4:21 PM

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that Kevin Youkilis (back) is "maybe a week" away from being activated.

Youkilis, out since April 27 with a lumbar spine strain, took six at-bats Wednesday in a simulated game. It's not clear if he'll go out on a brief rehab assignment, but he's getting close.
May 23 - 4:17 PM

Alberto Gonzalez has accepted an assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Gonzalez was outrighted to Triple-A after he passed through waivers unclaimed earlier this week. The Yankees will be happy to keep him around as infield depth.

Austin Jackson (hamstring) is unlikely be activated from the disabled list when he's eligible Monday.

Jackson landed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained left hamstring, but we haven't heard much about his progress. That's probably because there's little to update, as Chris Iott of MLive.com hears that he isn't currently doing any physical activity. Fantasy owners will have to hope that changes real soon.
May 23 - 4:08 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the White Sox have placed infielder Angel Sanchez (back) on waivers.

Sanchez, a Rule 5 pick, has been on the disabled list for a little over a month with a lower back strain and is seven games into a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte. If he goes unclaimed, he will be offered back to the Angels.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons confirmed Thursday that Sean Nolin will start Friday against the Orioles.

Nolin, a sixth-round pick in 2010, has posted a 1.17 ERA and 16/5 K/BB ratio in 15 1/3 innings (three starts) this season at the Triple-A level. But the 23-year-old left-hander isn't really regarded as a top prospect and should be ignored in most standard fantasy leagues.
