Erasmo Ramirez was blasted for four earned runs in only 1/3 of an inning on Monday night against the Royals.

Ramirez gave up singles to Alcides Escobar, Whit Merrifield and Lorenzo Cain before Eric Hosmer launched a 414 foot bomb to center field. The former starter’s glowing 2.37 ERA took a beating and now sits at 3.29 for the season.

Yan Gomes wore glasses in Monday's game against the Rangers.

Gomes, who was previously wearing contacts, has been thinking about making the change since the spring. It didn't help him at the plate Monday, as he went 0-for-4 with a strikeout and now owns an ugly .175/.211/.357 batting line through 38 games.
May 30 - 10:48 PM

Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with his eighth homer and 15th double to lead the Nationals past the Phillies 4-3 on Monday.

Murphy has been on fire since day one this year, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He's already more than half way to his career high of 14 homers, and his 1.047 OPS is 278 points higher than his career mark of .769 with the Mets.

Tanner Roark yielded two runs and four hits in seven innings in a win over the Phillies on Monday.

Because the Nationals scored three runs in the top of the eighth, Roark won despite being outpitched by opposing starter Jeremy Hellickson, who allowed one run in seven innings. Roark improved to 4-4 with a 2.70 ERA.

Bryce Harper is day-to-day with a right knee contusion.

Harper was forced to exit Monday's game against the Phillies after he was hit in the right knee by a pitch from Jeremy Hellickson. It doesn't sound like a major concern, but the Nationals will see how he feels on Tuesday.
May 30 - 10:20 PM

Jeremy Hellickson pitched seven strong innings Monday, holding the Nationals to one run and striking out eight.

Hellickson gave up a homer to Daniel Murphy and it looked like he might have allowed another one to Ryan Zimmerman, but it was ruled a triple instead and he stranded Zimmerman on third. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to get Hellickson a win, even though he left with a one-run lead. Hellickson is 4-3 with a 3.68 ERA after 11 starts, and he might have some trade value for the Phillies this summer.
May 30 - 10:20 PM

Hector Neris gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning to take a blown save and a loss Monday against the Nationals.

Neris has been one of the NL's best relievers this year, but he didn't have it tonight and Phillies manager Pete Mackanin probably should have realized that before allowing him to face seven batters (three of whom he walked). Neris, who leads the NL with 27 appearances, saw his ERA jump from 1.29 to 2.20.

Jeff Locke pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game as the Pirates drubbed the Marlins 10-0 on Monday.

Locke hadn't completed any of his previous 100 major league starts. The left-hander was looking like the obvious choice to be bounced from the Pirates rotation when the team promoted Jameson Taillon or Tyler Glasnow, but this certainly complicates things a bit. He lowered his ERA from 5.08 to 4.33 tonight. That's better than what Jon Niese (4.42), Francisco Liriano (4.63) or Juan Nicasio (4.79 (or 4.21 if Andrew McCutchen hadn't whined about an error) have done.
