Mets recalled C Kevin Plawecki from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Manager Terry Collins has already confirmed that the 24-year-old backstop will serve as the Mets primary catcher for as long as Travis d'Arnaud remains sidelined. He has a solid offensive skill set and should be able to carve out mixed league value in deeper two-catcher formats over the next few weeks.

Steven Souza had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and an RBI double, but the Rays fell to the Yankees 5-3 on Sunday.

Souza gave the Rays a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run off of Michael Pineda. He helped bring the Rays back within two runs with a fifth-inning double off of Pineda, but it ultimately wasn't enough to avoid a series sweep. Souza is off to a good start, batting .289 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and four stolen bases.

Rick Porcello was hammered for eight earned runs in five innings Sunday as the Red Sox fell to the Orioles.

Porcello gave up two runs in the first inning, one run in the second, another two in the fifth, and then three in the sixth. He surrendered 12 hits in all and walked three Baltimore batters, watching his WHIP balloon from 0.93 to 1.47. The 26-year-old right-hander had been off to a decent start with his new team, but he'll carry an ugly 1-2 record and 6.63 ERA into his next outing on the road against these same Orioles.

Omar Infante was diagnosed with a strained left groin and is considered day-to-day.

Infante sustained the injury during Sunday's game against the Athletics. The oft-injured infielder will probably be rested for a couple of days before rejoining the Royals lineup.

Alex Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two runs scored to help the Yankees take down the Rays on Sunday.

Rodriguez's hot start to the 2015 season continues. Sunday's performance leaves him with a terrific .316/.447/.711 slash line. He has four home runs, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored to go along with it. Rodriguez remains two home runs shy of tying Willie Mays with 660 career home runs, fourth-most in baseball history.

Giants prospect Jarrett Parker has been a prodigious power hitter this year, blasting four homers in 31 at-bats for Triple-A Sacramento.

He also has ten RBI. Parker only went deep 15 times last season so it's hard to tell if this is a fluke or if the 26-year-old has turned a corner. He's someone to keep an eye out for if injuries force the Giants to call up an outfielder.

Andrew Miller worked around a leadoff double with three consecutive strikeouts to earn his fourth save of the season in Sunday's win against the Rays.

Protecting a two-run lead in the ninth inning, Miller allowed a leadoff double to Ryan Brett, but bounced back to strike out Rene Rivera, Logan Forsythe, and Steven Souza to end the contest. Miller remains unscored upon with a 12/2 K/BB ratio in six innings.
Apr 19 - 4:54 PM

Matt Andriese struggled in Sunday's start against the Yankees, serving up four runs in eight hits and two walks in a loss.

Andriese was solid in a spot start on Tuesday, so the pitching-thin Rays called on him again to face the Yankees on Sunday, but it didn't go nearly as well. Anriese recorded only one strikeout on the afternoon and had to be relieved with one out in the fourth inning. Andriese's next turn in the rotation comes next weekend at home against the Blue Jays.
