Anthony Rizzo went 3-for-3 with two homers and a walk as the Cubs edged the Giants 5-4 on Wednesday.

Rizzo has four homers in his last four games, taking his OPS from .757 to .846. He's still batting just .238, but that won't last for much longer, either.
May 25 - 12:03 AM

Kyle Hendricks pitched seven innings of two-run ball in a victory over the Giants on Wednesday.

It's the first time this year that he's completed seven innings. The velocity is still down, but Hendricks has a 1.94 ERA in his last six starts after coming in at 6.19 in his first three. We'd still be a whole lot more confident about him over the rest of the season if he were throwing a couple mph harder.
May 25 - 12:01 AM

Wade Davis gave up his first homer in two years Wednesday, but he still closed out the Giants for his 10th save.

The two-run shot Davis surrendered to Mac Williamson was just the fourth homer Davis has allowed in 201 innings since he became a full-time reliever in 2014. He hadn't allowed an earned run in 17 1/3 innings to open this season, but his ERA stands at 0.98 now.
May 24 - 11:58 PM

Eduardo Nunez suffered a minor left hamstring tweak in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Nunez did not have to leave the game (he finished 2-for-4) and expects to play on Thursday. He has stolen 12 bases this season, but might not be quite as active on the basepaths over the next few days.
May 24 - 11:57 PM

Matt Moore surrendered four runs -- three earned -- in six-plus innings Wednesday against the Cubs.

Moore took the loss, leaving him 2-5 with a 5.28 ERA. He'll likely get on a roll at some point and amass some mixed-league value, but he's been really disappointing thus far. He'll face the hard-hitting Nationals next time out.
May 24 - 11:55 PM

Carlos Gonzalez went 3-for-5 and crushed a three-run bomb against the Phillies on Wednesday.

His big blast was the crowning blow in his team's seven-run, third-inning outburst. He has really struggled this season but has shown signs of life in recent games. He has his batting average up to .252 with four home runs and 16 RBI through 184 plate appearances. He hit 25 home runs last year and 40 the year before.
May 24 - 11:54 PM

Albert Almora went 0-for-4 against the Giants on Wednesday and is hitting .229 in 48 at-bats this month.

Almora is the Cubs' best defensive center fielder, but with Ian Happ up and Javier Baez and Jon Jay needing playing time, it would make sense to send him down for a spell. He's started just three games in the last 10 days.
May 24 - 11:53 PM

Mac Williamson hit a two-run homer off Wade Davis in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Williamson is the first player to homer off Davis since 2015, but since it was a three-run game, the Giants still fell in this one. Williamson is 4-for-22 since joining the Giants last week. He's probably going to head back to Triple-A if Hunter Pence returns next week as hoped.
